Hypothetical Situation...

what big name proven winner do you think will come and at what price??

Tennessee fans are going to be shocked at the next football hire. Be it after 2012 or 13 or whenever, they will be shocked by the process and what they end up with.. there is not a Tennessee guy out there ready to come home and take the job

Charile Strong for 3 mil.

Who cares?

Hire the guy that gives you the best chance of winning.

I do not care where he's from.

they have hired the best they could get and they thought could give the the best chance of winning.

first was Kiffin.

Second was Dooley..

My point on Tennessee guy is easy to get (if there was any). others are much harder.

who do you think would come at what amount? I'll pass the name along even if they laugh in my face..

I don't understand how a WAC loser is perfect to clean up the mess left behind. easy, he was at la tech (worst program in the conference when he took over) and took them to their first ever bowl game iirc. "WAC loser"? Open your mind a little.

I don't understand how anyone with a functioning brain can think he is. I know

Ask yourself this, if Derek Smith, La Tech's former coach with a losing record, had just coached Tennessee to a 5-7 record, would you defend him? If he left la tech in better shape than he found it and was landing top 10-15 recruiting classes at Tennessee every year and had proven that he has the ability to assemble a good staff and had only lost 1 game he wasn't suppose to lose in 2 years... Yes, I would.

He was put in a bad spot and has actually regressed. That's astonishing.

.

He's recruiting in the middle of the pack of the SEC. Every coach besides Bill Battle has been able to recruit nationally at a pretty good clip. That's to be expected.

The roster wasn't near as bad as some made it out to be. He rolled out with a lot of talented freshmen (most were already here before he got here) and had to play them. He's now managed to go backwards from there.

Wilcox is a fantastic DC. I have no faith he'll be here in 2012.

Chaney has never been a part of any kind of "championship" offense. He's listened to Joe Tiller and Lane Kiffin call plays.

A player's biggest leap is supposedly from his freshman year to his sophomore year. Look at the OL, Brent Brewer and the DL. That's not encouraging.

So our differences would be in how we see DD as a recruiter and the roster he inherited.

I don't think any staff would have done measurably better in his 3 classes. Under the circumstances I think he has been a home run hire when it comes to recruiting. Not because of where the classes have been rated but I just havnt seen the misses that a lot of classes seem to have. Now that could change for sure if there isn't the normal development but as of now I give him an A in recruiting.

The roster was terrible. I am sorry I can't understand how you can say it wasn't as bad as most think. Two classes were almost completely gutted.

JW is a game changer. If he leaves I am very worried.

JC unprofessional and his offense plays like it.

We will be in much better shape roster wise whenever our next hire comes. That was one of the main reasons Tennessee was such an unattractive job at the time we hired Dooley. That, and the fact that the NCAA was looming over our head. There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be able to hire a big name coach by next year or whenever that time may be. We certainly have the money and facilities to get it done. Hart will have no choice but to make a splash with whoever he decides to hire. That's why we brought him here in the first place, to make Tennessee the championship caliber team we once were.

That's why he was the 7th guy called in the coaching search?

Luke Stocker, Denarious Moore, Gerald Jones, Herman Lathers, Janzen Jackson, Justin Hunter, Da'Rick Rogers (Dooley got him), Tauren Poole (a 1000 yard back) and Bray is short of playmakers, but not UK or Ole Miss bad.

He was shorthanded on both lines of scrimmage, but he had some good young talent on the OL. They have gotten worse this year.

So they can Dooley and pay him 5 million..

Hire Charlie at 3 million

Pay Charlies boyout of 2.5 million..

10.5 million dollar move in first year.

do you think they pursue that risk?? No assurance that Charlie can turn program so it is a big risk.

He was saying Dooley was the best they could get; not that he was the best available. He is saying the others turned us down.

Misunderstood.

Although Sumlin looks like a better choice right now than Dooley (and let's just leave it at that).

Will be much easier to find a coach next time around. With the conference realignment the Big East is going to be out in the cold soon enough. These cats like Schaino (sp), Patterson and Leavitt have learned what most people already knew. You have to strike while the iron is hot.

The other thing to consider is that UT will be in much better shape than Dooley found it in. For that we should all be grateful.

Any chance Jon Gruden would come here :)

I do not think Charlie Strong is worth that risk.

What has Wilcox proved again? I like him, but seriously? The three good offenses we played this year, (and I'm being generous with LSU and Bama) he gave up 38, 37, and 49 respectively. Sure, it's not all his fault with a sucky offense, but still.

In all those games I felt he had great game plans. We were really good in those 1st halfs. I know you are going to say 2nd halfs are about adjustments and there is truth to that but 2nd half defense has so much to do with momentum. Defenses need shots in the arm from there offensive scores and I frankly don't blame their quitting in those games.

It's not like they'd have to pay it all at once. Fulmer is being payed in installments, correct?

What's the definition of insanity? Repeating the same thing over and over and expecting different results. That's what we're getting out of Dooley.

Not against Arkansas.

And we didn't have momentum against Alabama?

He's got a lot of potential. i think he'll do a good job. But I don't get the love at the moment.
