Kamara is 100% gone next year, as he should be. As mentioned earlier, it was closer than many realize that he was gone last year, huge testament to the majority of player's belief in Butch. On a side not, I've been here for 7 years without using the ignore function until now. Congrats D4H, you're officially insufferable.

Everyone stays!
Hurd moves to tight end and has an outstanding year. Kamara and Kelly rush for over 1000 yds each, Kamara has almost 1000 yds receiving.
Heisman race is between Barnett and Kamara.
We win the NC of course!

Hm, well, he's had one really good game. His stats earlier in the year are not that great. He didn't get near as many touches.

As the rest of the season plays out, he most likely will get more touches, and thus more attention.

Right now, he is not projected to go in the draft at all. If that remains the case, then he stays. :hi:

Having said that, likely he will be on the board by the end of the season. But how high? We will have to wait and see.

And another point...Hurd is only a third rounder on that list, and i think we can all agree that while he is having a great year, it's not quite as great as we may have expected.

I think there is a decent chance Hurd stays.

Generally, the rule of thumb with leaving early is that if you are a first or second rounder, it's a lock. If you are lower, it's a decision.

We will see....

Hurd hasn't been having a great year at all but I still think he's gone if anybody stays it'll be kamara but that depends on the rest of his year

Okay...a good year. He's averaging 4 yards a carry and 80 yards a game. Agree that's not "great" but it certainly doesn't suck.

It's also a step down from last year, but he padded his stats a bit in November last year, and I expect him to do so again.

not sure how the whole suicide angle got worked in--thats entirely false. also, some group did a study on players who were drafted over a 10 yr period (think it was 95-2005) and how often they filed for bankruptcy. it wasn't nearly as bad as the 78%, i think it was closer to 20% for *drafted* players.

I think the stats are a bit skewed because maybe they used NFL players from the 60s on up? I get the feeling you were much, much more likely to end up broken if you played in the early NFL days.

by the way here is the actual quote;

"By the time they have been retired for two years, 78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress because of joblessness or divorce."

notice how that seems a bit more likely than 80% of NFL players either go broke or kill themselves? :)

Maybe it just doesn't look as pretty cause it's just a consistent 3 yards. He's still pass blocking great and catching the ball out of the back field great

David Moulton, local radio guy on ESPN, just said Kamara reminded him of Thurman Thomas and he looked forward to seeing him against Bama on the "Tennessee Vols Network".

He's had very little opportunity to do anything before his first start at Tennessee last week......6 carries vs App State, 3 vs VaTech, 2 vs Florida. Then, due to Hurd's injury, he gets a lot more touches vs both Georgia and TAM and wah lah.......34 carries for 189 yards and 2 tds to go along with 11 catches for 187 yards and 2 more touchdowns.

So, to sum up.....virtually no touches vs App State, VaTech and Florida, 3 games, and he totals 93 yards and 1 touchdown.

But then, a lot of touches vs Georgia and TAM, about 1.5 games, and he gets 376 yards and 4 tds.

I love the way Sponge runs. His cut, balance, and vision are second to none, IMO.

No, I don't think any of us can agree that Hurd is having a great year. His 4.03 yards per carry average is 35th in the conference. 43 of his 101 carries have resulted in 2 yards or less, he has 25 first down carries of 2 yards or less and he only has 2 rushing tds in 5 games played. I love Jalen, hope he gets healthy and finishes the season like a boss....we badly need him to contribute heavily down the stretch. But as of today, he's having a below average season.

I absolutely believe it's the situation he's been put in. Debord sees him as a power back and wants him to run that way. Our Oline is just now starting to click. Without a blocker, I don't think there is a back that could do any better going off tackle. Kamara got stuffed on the same type plays and therefore Debord chose the better option. I think we, ll see more out of both now that Debord feels like he can open up more options for each.

You could be right. But we have a year and a half of games as our sample now with both guys playing in the same system behind the same OL with the same coaches/OC.....

Hurd - 407 touches, 1,964 yards, 4.8 yards per touch, 18 tds

Alvin- 217 touches, 1,534 yards, 7.1 yards per touch, 15 tds

So, I see this a little differently. I think both Kamara and Kelly showed that a smaller, quicker back with some wiggle that can make a defender miss in the hole and get 5 or 6 yards like they did vs TAM rather than the 2-3 yards that Jalen has gotten this season, probably fits this offense and OL blocking scheme a little better.

the comparisons Kamar is currently getting are all warranted. and he'll be a good NFL back in those molds.

i think Hurd will be a better NFL back than college, simply because of the style of play. he's physical, big, and good speed. he'll be much better off in prototypical pro style offense.

No question Alvin has incredible numbers but, they don't tell the whole story. If he puts up a complete season with numbers like like that, he should win the Heisman hands down. The point is all the people suddenly thinking he should be the starter over Hurd and Hurd's just another good back/TE/FB/etc.. Hurd and Kamara got us here, together. Thank goodness we have both. They compliment each other and could be so much more if they had a better balance of touches. I don't know how good Kamara would do if he had Hurd's carries week in and week out when every defense expects a first down run and know he's coming and have pretty good idea where. I'm just not giving up on Hurd like many others appear to have. Split their touches 50/50 and I bet by the end of the season "their numbers" are much closer.
The end result would be a weekly show by the CMG.
