Hyams notes on coaching searches

This is the guy that said UT never talked with Gruden ?

Well, as it turns out, his source may be correct on that. People over here seems to trust what Brent Hubbs says. Hubbs said last night that the flight from Chicago to Tampa did happen, but Currie was not on the flight.

Since we already know that the plane carried some one and their family to Knoxville, it looks like the excitement that we were there to meet with Gruden was for nothing.

My guess is that Currie and his staff have already talked to Gruden's agent and representatives and has been told that Gruden will not be a candidate for the job.

Sounds like aTm gets Fisher and we get Mullen. I, like previous posters, have a hard time seeing him taking a job he has to play MSU every year.

I still believes he stays there. He has a very talented team coming back. With put all that together just to turnaround and give it to someone else?

Please let the Hyams jokes pass on by...

Hyams source gave him these notes

-Mullen likes A&M
-Jimbo also likes A&M
-Mullen a great coach, labeled a "weird duck" was widely disliked by people at UF
- Shiano would jump on the UT job, would be a bad fit, very unlikeable
-Fuente does not like to move around
-Frost likely to Nebraska, if not Nebraska may stay put
-No way Patterson leaves
-Gundy not as happy as years past, but wife loves it there

UT search very cloudy with no clear frontrunner.

If this is the case and Gruden is out, call 1800-4Kiffin and be done with it.

Yesterday, Hyams said he spoke with his "source" and was given 4 candidates.......Mullen, Frost, Schiano, and Kelly. He spoke more about Schiano and how he has moved quickly up the list. He also said he was surprised that Norvell was not mentioned and seemed not to be a candidate.

Well...it's not any of those 4...who else is out there?

If we end up with Schanio, Norvell, or Brohm I'll be pissed and UT football will descend into the darkest days we've ever experienced. Just bring back fulmer if we have only those to choose from.

Currie has done an excellent job of keeping things close to the vest. Mullen is still the number one candidate and a meeting is planned for Friday. They want to get this deal done by this weekend before the madness happens next week. As a plan B, they're vetting Gundy and Campbell if things don't work out with Mullen. Schiano was on the list, but he comes with a high risk factor. There's a wide delta between the number of top tier coaches and the number of openings.

Regarding the other points, it's not a certain that Sumlin is going to get fired. There are people at A&M that want to see him get one more year. Mullen could be a candidate, but one of the factors in his interest in UT was leaving the SEC West.

🙌🏻

Another power 5 coach outside of Dan Mullen wouldn't jump to Tennessee.

The only way Dan Mullen would is because of how bad Tennessee has been for 15 years...

Figures more $$$$ and I can stay average???
Sign me up

So saying that give me les Miles or Schanio

What exactly is a "weird duck"?

I realize this is a strange question with my username, lol.

Mullen apparently has a strange/quirky personality and is difficult to work with. He and Jeremy Foley butted heads when Mullen was at Florida, which is notable because Mullen wasn't even the head coach.

Currie seems like a very conservative, buttoned-up, politically correct, "play nice" kind of guy. I think that eliminates anybody with baggage, anybody with a unique personality, or anybody with a history of being difficult. It is absolutely guaranteed to not be Kiffin or Petrino. It won't be Kelly or Leach. It probably won't be Mullen or Schiano (Schiano has a reputation of being a really difficult guy to work with too). Taggart is an interesting name but he comes with some baggage himself after his S&C coach ran that military-style training program and put 3 guys in the hospital.

As far as the bigger names, that leaves guys like Fuente and Patterson, but the situations at their current schools are such that they likely wouldn't leave.

If it's not them, then you really start getting into the "Google coaches," one of which I have been saying for weeks is likely to be hired. Could be Norvell, Matt Campbell, Brohm, or even someone like D.J. Durkin or P.J. Fleck (Fleck isn't exactly a Google coach but I know he's someone the fanbase at large, including me, wouldn't want).

It speaks volumes that UF hasn't reached out to him this time or last.

Apparently there's a strong dislike for him down there
