Hunter out for season with torn ACL

I had a buddy who tore his ACL twice in two years and the second time he continued the season because the doctor told him there wasnt anything he could do to make it worse at that point.. (He was a TE) .. So he could man up and play as a decoy maybe to take pressure off of Da'Rick and get surgery at the end of the season.

Other than "hope he's not that far gone", I didn't really have a reply, I just noticed you're a fellow UT and Ducks fan. If you're also a Griz grad or fan, you're pretty much obligated to bear my children.

If docs said his ACL was torn, why was he back on the sideline without any kind of brace or support for that knee???

Actually, when he 1st came out, he still had on pads, just no helmet.

Also, somebody earlier said that with the kind of ligament injury they are talking about now, that a good trainer could tell fairly quickly.. That's why I'm confused.

Okay, that's why I'm confused on this specific thing. The 'generally confused' part I blame on God.

As an Athletic Trainer.... here is my thought.

The Athletic Trainer probably thought ACL initially, assuming he saw it as it happened. Due to the TV feed, I was unable to tell what all they were able to test for on the field, but it seemed like he was up after not too long, so I doubt they did that much. Once he got to the sideline, he was evaluated by the Team Ortho. At that point, there was probably a good idea, but taking him to the locker room would let them get a better test.

Once inside, the Ortho (guy who walked inside with him), he would get a full exam. At this point, the Ortho is probably 95% plus sure of the diagnosis. Sure there is the occasional case where they say torn and it ends up to not be, but when you think about how many knees these guys look at on a yearly basis, you are probably talking about 1% of the cases. The MRI will basically be a formality. It will confirm yes, but it will also help them determine the extent of damage to any other structures.

It's probably hoping against hope but I hope it's just a sprain that will heal in a couple of weeks. If not, if it's his acl, he needs to get it fixed asap and get back to rehabilitation as soon as possible. Guys, say a little prayer for him tonight. It couldn't hurt!

He absolutely tore his ACL, any physician could tell how loose it is by examining it and probably told him and the coaches it was torn.

your exactly right, now what the MRI will tell us is how bad is it torn, complete or partial?

If he just sprained it and no tear, then he will be out min. of 4-6 weeks..

Latest on Justin Hunter: Source indicates test results aren't back, but UT is expecting the sophomore receiver will be out for the season

per Austin Ward via Twitter.

It didn't take a rocket scientist to know it was an ACL. Kid dropped instantly like he was shot...

Was watching the game with a buddy of mine who tore his ACL and he immediately grabbed his own knee when he saw the slow-mo replay of Hunter's knee in which you could see the knee "slip"... My buddy said, "Yup, that's an ACL. He.Is.Done."

Bones, we wish you the best and a speedy recovery!!!

I knew that's what it was from the jumbotron screen. Just how he just dropped to the ground and all. Tough break, and this team must learn to move on and get better from this adversity.

i completely tore my acl and mcl at the end of last year. I elected to not have surgery and 3 months later was fighting again. I can assure you I knew instantly it was tore but didnt know to what extent (that is what the mri will decide). He will have the surgery if it is and be good as new next season. actually will probably be stronger. if it is a complete tear Dr andrews said to me there was probably already partial tears in it anyway and was a matter of time. just hope for a speedy recovery and be glad it wasnt an inky deal
