Hubbs was on 104.5 this morning saying that the rivalry feels different this year and may be a little diminished because not one coach on either staff has actually played a football game for their respective team. He also said that this hasn't happened since 1935.

I think he has a very valid point. However, from a fans perpective, I don't care who is coaching or who is playing. I look forward to this game being played more than any other throughout the year. My hair is standing up on my arms typing this post right now just thinking about it.

No matter where these coaches had their prior playing or coaching experience, they will soon find out what this game is all about.

GO VOLS!

It does feel different, I remember when Kentucky was becoming more difficult to beat than Bama. Time to renew that wonderful feeling as soon as possible. I'm hoping for 80 yards from Hardesty, 92 from Brown, 105 from Teague and 230 from Jon, allowing for one INT. Defense keep doing what you do.

I think had Alabama not been jerks about the jersey thing, it would have brought a tad bit of something special back to the rivalry. Ultimately I know jerseys and all don't matter, but it would have been a throwback to the old days of the rivalry.

It's a tradition rivalry. That's about it. This game (to me) lost its luster, meaning and impact when the conference split into 2 divisions in 1992. I enjoy the game as a fan, but its easy to see why younger kids don't feel the same about this game as the elder generations do.

Prior to 1992, this was "the game", barnone. Heck, it was even featured in Forest Gump! :p

Good point and I agree. Something was lost after the split. This is one of our historic games.

It'd help if both teams were nationally ranked.

It'd also be nice for the rivalry if we could meet those sob's in Atlanta.
I wonder what the rule with the jersey situation would be there.

I can't remember how the home team is determined in the SECCG.

It would be sweet to see us and Bama in Atlanta sporting the Orange and Crimson.

It's much nicer to hear about jersey colors during Bama week, than Subpoenagate the past few years.

It'd be good for the rivalry, the conference, and for college football. It'd be great to see.

Still hard to believe that the Vols and Tide have never faced each other in Atlanta.

And how many of Alabama's and UT's players grew up outside both states and never new anything about the third saturday in october? Just because someone coming into the university wasn't involved with it prior to being here, doesn't make it any less grand.

It's more of a business approach, instead of a pissing match between staffs with football experience for the school they coach for. I like the business approach myself.

With Lance Thompson coming over to Tennessee from Bama, I think there is animosity on the Bama side. Didn't Lane say we took Saban's #1 recruiter or something to that effect? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I personally like it when coaches don't like each other. To hell with Bama...

GO VOLS !!!

You are correct. CLK did say that.

Personally I think the rivalry is even stronger now that CLK is here. Before when CPF was here, he was the good ole' boy, who all the coaches liked, so there was never any bad blood. It was all hand shakes and smiles after the game. Atleast with CLK he never smiles.

Live in southern Tennessee and you will see the rivalry among fans. Bama fans are like somebody else, they all come out of the closet when they win.

I want Majors in the locker room Saturday in case anyone there needs to better understand this rivalry. I wasn't a huge fan of his, just think it would be pretty damn cool.

I think that's one of the things that makes the rivalry seem different this year. Bammer fans had developed an intense hatred of Fulmer, without him they don't seem to be able to generate their normal amount of intensity.

I'm sure if Kiffin pulls off the upset and ruins Bama's bid for their FIRST modern-era BCS National Championship, he will be able to garner a little more hatred from them next year.

For some reason, most people out of state, think your big rivalry is either with Vandy or Florida. Never really thought of Bama and you guys having much of a rivarly. Of course, Florida and Georgia, hell, those two schools down right hate each other.

because that would require a USCjr fan to have some understanding of CFB history (and why would they?)
