Hubbs was on 104.5 this morning saying that the rivalry feels different this year and may be a little diminished because not one coach on either staff has actually played a football game for their respective team. He also said that this hasn't happened since 1935.
I think he has a very valid point. However, from a fans perpective, I don't care who is coaching or who is playing. I look forward to this game being played more than any other throughout the year. My hair is standing up on my arms typing this post right now just thinking about it.
No matter where these coaches had their prior playing or coaching experience, they will soon find out what this game is all about.
GO VOLS!
It's a tradition rivalry. That's about it. This game (to me) lost its luster, meaning and impact when the conference split into 2 divisions in 1992. I enjoy the game as a fan, but its easy to see why younger kids don't feel the same about this game as the elder generations do.
Prior to 1992, this was "the game", barnone. Heck, it was even featured in Forest Gump!![]()
I wonder what the rule with the jersey situation would be there. It'd help if both teams were nationally ranked.
It'd also be nice for the rivalry if we could meet those sob's in Atlanta.

It's more of a business approach, instead of a pissing match between staffs with football experience for the school they coach for. I like the business approach myself.
With Lance Thompson coming over to Tennessee from Bama, I think there is animosity on the Bama side. Didn't Lane say we took Saban's #1 recruiter or something to that effect? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I personally like it when coaches don't like each other. To hell with Bama...
GO VOLS !!!
It's much nicer to hear about jersey colors during Bama week, than Subpoenagate the past few years.

For some reason, most people out of state, think your big rivalry is either with Vandy or Florida. Never really thought of Bama and you guys having much of a rivarly. Of course, Florida and Georgia, hell, those two schools down right hate each other.
