How was Vandy able to hire Franklin and Mason and we get DD and Jones?

Franklin got out of Nashville with the seat of his pants on fire regarding that rape case. He can recruit though. IMHO Mason is not a top tier coach.

Since we like to say that having to Google a coach is a bad thing, I'm sure many on here would have been disappointed in the Franklin hire. Chances are many on here would not have been aware that he was the OC at Maryland. Vandy did go out and get a pretty big coach in Derek Mason, though; but it hasn't turned out nearly as well.

Can we not get good coaches who can run a top program. There is no doubt that Mason will go on to a top program. And it's obvious why Franklin turned Vandy around. Why can't UT hire these types.

Very simple answer. Vandy did not/does not have an AD; we have had hammy and hart. And now we have currie........

I've been saying this for a while to my close friend circle, so why not let it out in the open here. I'm not usually one to fall for "curses," but I can't help to wonder if UT has it's own version of the "Bambino Curse" or "The Goat" curse. It sounds silly, but think about it. We fired Fulmer in '08 and ever since then, it's basically been a cluster of crappy hires, apparent admin infighting, and just all around on-field WTF moments! I know some, most probably, will laugh at me for this. But honestly, just think about it. What if we have a Fulmer Curse? Karma is a B**** so it kinda fits. Just a fun thought to stir some discussion.

Whether in NFL or college, it's all about culture from the top. Chancellor, UTAD, AD, Head Coach. You can see the teams in NFL and college which have it, and those which don't. Usually, those who don't, but get a HC right, are a flash for a few years. I remember back in Donnan days, folks from UGA were saying that they'd never be good in football again because they raised their academic standards. For the good teams/organizations, there may be down years, but usually not over a long period of time. We had a long run of success in many programs from late 80's thru early mid 2000's, because of our structure. I want Butch gone, but do think that Currie is showing restraint in firing Butch, which, for sure, takes discipline and conviction of belief. I hope that, what ever reason Currie has for not firing him yet is going to reap us rewards. I choose to believe this over pure incompetence...guess we'll find out soon enough.

They took a chance on two black coaches at Vandy. Not likely to happen in Knoxville on the football side of the house. Hell, they had Kippy Brown in their lap before they decided to go with Dooley.

Just saying...

Mason? Come on, he's had 1 ok season which was as good as Franklin's worst season. He will end up a coordinator again in a few years.

Mason is a good coach. He's just at Vandy where it's hard not to be around 5-7 to 7-5. His team gets better and he develops players. They have a better QB than we do. This is unacceptable that Vandy, MTSU, and Memphis have better coaches and programs than us!!! There is no disputing this anymore!!
