Curious to know why Mike Hamilton is wanting to extend his contract? How many times has Fulmers name surfaced for a coach vacancy? I believe he was mentioned for the ATL job years ago, but I do not see us having to fight anybody to keep this guy. :cray:

The only thing I could think of is recruiting sercurity. So the other teams cant use it against us.

I think there were rumors about the Carolina Panthers in the 90s, but I don't think it was anything other than talk.

Im quite sure many have approached Chavis... Cutt speaks for himself, I wouldnt use that as an insult, it doesnt have very strong legs.

Rodney Garner to UGA, and Trooper was approached by Texas. That's all I'm aware of.

Astute observation. I never before thought of that.

David Cutcliffe was hired by Ole Miss because of the Peyton Manning connection.

If you think back during the Johnny Majors era there was Ron Zook (Florida, Illinois) and Jon Gruden (Oakland, Tampa Bay) - both of whom were assistant coaches who went on to head coaching jobs.

I believe that there were others but I cannot remember who they were.

Most of the well thought of coaches that got a lot of interest were coaches hired by Majors.

Cut obviously
Chavis...Colts D Line
Smith...fired then NFL
Brooks...rumored to NC and NC St but never officially offered
Taylor...Texas made a move

That's about it. Frankly, it's been one of the damning realities of the Fulmer era that they don't have a system that attracts and produces good coaches that other people bid for. People can make all sorts of excuses, but the fact of the matter is that they haven't been in high demand.

Majors, on the other hand, had a whole slew of coaches that other people wanted...and made it easy for them to leave because he was such a prick to work for.

I think it's more a sign of the assistant's committment to UT. If other programs know a coach is happy where he's at, there less likely to go after them.

I like the fact that we've had long term stability, it definetly helps us recruit..

I would like to see improvement:
Chavis, please work on tackling, and Roper, look at your talent and put the best athlete on the field..

that is definitely a utopian viewpoint...it may be true in some cases, but the reality is, o/t CDC, and maybe troop, no one is really looking at anyone on the staff today as possibilities for their program.

The only team that has approached Fulmer is the marketing team for Krispy Kreme!

I still believe the line that Fulmer willl not hire anyone with pizzaz and coaching ability for fear that they will take his job. Look at the history, guys who can coach positions but are more dull than Phil and guys who can recruit/excite but can't coach their way out of a wet paper bag. Trooper may be the exception and I wouldn't be surpised if Fulmer doesn't give him a significant raise/bonus.

We can get the best in the country and we have in the past, but once they get here what happens to the talent? I would rather have a coach that can get the most out of a recruit than these guys just putting a helmet on and running through the T. It amazes me to see guys like Whitten-utilized very little in our system, now top 5 TE in the NFL. When you get 5 star talent, I suggest letting us enjoy them in Neyland before watching them on TV.

i'm beginning to wonder if this is not the truth.
