How does Neyland Stadium compare?

I've been to all of the SEC stadiums, most in the ACC (-Boston College), Penn. State, Ohio State, and Notre Dame.

It is true that crowds are just louder in the SEC. Penn. State gets pretty loud, and the student section is pretty nuts. Ohio State was a bit of a let down.

Clemson is comparable to the SEC schools for pure loudness, especially since they enclosed the West endzone.

I was at the 2005 Florida game, and that is still the loudest I've heard a stadium.

If I wanted to go to a game to quietly sit in my seat and maybe clap a time or two, then I would much rather do that in the confines of my home, in my recliner, with a cold beer in hand.
I pay good money to go to a game to have fun. To be rowdy and to CHEER my team on. I don't stand the whole time, but I do stand on every big play or during crunch time. I do the same as basketball games.

I swear - some of our fans need to stick to playin bingo and watchin the games at home. Let fans who cheer go to the games. Besides, I've heard some of these bingo nights get pretty rowdy themselves!

you should stand on defense and sit during offense. you can still cheer during offense but you don't have to cheer loud. defense, you should be cheering as loud as you can on each play. especially if it's a close game.

That's exactly what i do unless the people in front of me are standing during offense, then i have to in order to see. :rock:

The problem with Neyland is that the Vols have been a winning big time football program for almost a century, unlike Florida. There will always a percentage of older season ticket holders who are not as loud. This is due to change however, and HD TV will be a big part of that reason. UT already see's a dip in renewals.

What seems to elude you and your friends here is that it is impossible to cheer as loud as you can on every play. There are certain situations even on defense in which it is important to very loud, louder than you have been all night.

The most annoying thing is when the guy behind you thinks he has the best solution ever.. Last year at the UCLA game, "PUT BLAKE STEPHENS IN!!! CROMPTON SUCKS!! COME ON KIFFIN PUT BLAKE IN!!"

He did this for the entire first quarter until I said, "Hey dumba$$ it's Nick Stephens and if he were any better he would be in the game, gtfo." hahah

But in regards to the OP.. I have never had a problem with people telling me to sit down. Probably because I only stand up in the times when you are supposed too.

Smaller crowds with vocal fans are much more intimidating than a soft crowd in a huge stadium.

See: Autzen Stadium, Cameron Indoor, The Kennel at Gonzaga, etc.

Let's be honest, everyone wants to sit in the front rows of Neyland...until they realize they can't see anything from that angle. Make the student section line the field a la Cameron Indoor. That'll make the stadium a little rowdier.

every fanbase in the country complains about their old farts not making noise. autzen being loud has far more to do with the design of the stadium than it does their fans.

yeah they cry about $10 per ticket but should all be moved to the 50yd line. Good plan

Not necessarily...Florida's fanbase started in the early 90s. Their oldest fans are roughly 30 years old

i understand what you're saying, if they are standing in front of me i'll look around them or watch the screen or stand as the play unfold, but I'll never ask someone to sit down. If it's an opposing team's fan, i'll tell them to sit down. unless it's an opposing team fan.

I'm pretty sure I don't arbitrarily stand up at random intervals during the game. I mostly have been told to sit down when I'm stuck in the row(s) between the student section and the season ticket holders. Students always stand, and the other season ticket holders behind us want to sit.

I get as frustrated as anyone when people are screaming on a UT third down, but on a big opposing 3rd, I always see lots of people sitting and just watching instead of making noise.

And this was so sad when they announced the original prices. Days later I gave a speech for my Pub. Speaking class about the ticket prices. Everyone was so excited because I was gonna say how it wasn't fair and that it shouldn't happen. Everyone in the class left thinking the prices were the right way to go.

I agree that some can't cheer every play but people shouldn't get mad if a fan tries.

Well, you should be fine now since you've been in section G all those times. The student section is moving to the West side of the stadium now so that if you go to a game with Hump or me, you'll be able to sit and stand at the appropriate moments.
