Solid B, maybe a B+

I don't want to call missing out on Wright & Jernigan "MISSES" since realistically they were long shots, especially Jernigan. IF we could have landed one or both of them I would give the 2011 class an A.

That being said, since we addressed many positions of need and the coaches seems to think these are players of character and can make the grade on the field, off the field, and in the class room to stick around for 3-4 years, I am pleased with the class and look forward to seeing UT build on this in the future

B+. I'm definitely not mad, but imagining what it was looking like last night got me a little too hyped. I mean its still a top 15 class, and we picked up what appears to be a talented and intelligent bunch of kids.

A more realistic grade will be given in a year or two depending on player development. Lane might well return to pre-injury form and be the stud I hope he will be. New DB's become solid tacklers and cover guys. New OL open holes and protects Bray. Clear is "the man" at TE. Might be an A class, but today I will go with B+ :loco:

Im very impressed with the class. There are a dozen or so kids, that could have been swayed, to go to several big name programs, and considering the state of our program, CDD did an awesome job. We have put togeather a class, that covers needed depth, with quality players. Solid B+

B +

Would have been an A+ if we got Wright, and Dawson. Great class, and foundation for the future.

didn't address concerns on DL well enough to get an A. overall grade of B.

OL - A
QB - B-
RB - B+
WR/TE - A
DB - A+
LB - B-
DL - C+

I know I will get ripped, A (A+ with Wright) but we addressed every need we had.

QB - We now have a solid back up for Bray in Worley. He may get redshirted this year but it is a complete travesty he is a 3*.

RB - Lane, Smith and Young. Lane still has some work to do to get back to his form before the injury but all 3 can contribute on special teams this fall if needed.

TE - Clear will contribute this year. Downs will redshirt but we now have a foundation to build on

OL - Please look at the 6 OL we signed this year. ALL 6 ARE STUDS! That is where championships are built, in the trenches. We have a foundation now to build on.

LB - AJ, Maggitt and Harris...Harris will get redshirted but the kid can play. The other 2 will contribute this fall. Put 15lbs of muscle on Maggitt, I just pissed myself thinking of how dangerous that guy will be.

DL - Couch, Saulsberry, Williams and Carson will all contribute over the next 2 years. Remember, we get Ben Martin and Marlon Walls back this fall. DL is still a weakness but nowhere near where it was in '10. Again, we have the foundation.

Secondary will be insane with the additions of Lanier and Moore.

We will score points and our defense now has depth....I'm freakin' thrilled with the plan Dooley has put in place.

B

Couch is the only DT that will see the field next year, IMO. Wright would have played some. Otherwise our DL class was unimpressive. DE was barely touched and we need depth there just as bad as we do DT and LB.

LB class was an immediate upgrade, but Dawson would have solidified it. Johnson will likely see the field at some point next year, Maggitt may depending on his development this summer (he needs to hit the weights). Dawson would have been in the two-deep right away. I think Harris gets red-shirted.

We still missed a legit speed RB. I'm pleased with what we got, but we should have had one power, one speed. We got two power backs instead.

TE was improved, but I think we maybe should have gotten three instead of two (I believe the staff tried). Still a position in need of quality depth. In hindsight, really wish we hadn't botched things with MacLain early.

PR has got to be improved--Young, Dallas, Arnett, or someone has got to be able to return a punt.

OL was absolutley excellent. QB and WR were good additions, S/CB were very good. Both Moore and Lanier start right away.

Almost an A. I would have given A- had we picked up either Jernigan or Wright. 2nd place in recruiting is the first loser as they say. Ouch. One more good DT would have been sweet. Glad we got the ones we did, and especially Couch, who could be special. One of those other HS studs could have had us solid in the 2012 season.

I'm happy. I guess the best thing is that it appears Dooley CAN play with the big boys of the SEC. Had he flopped (say a 25ish ranked class), I might be scared about the coming years. He seems to NOT be over his head field coaching, has surrounded himself with impressive coaches, and now shows that he can recruit an adequate class to make a run @@ an SEC title.

Of the big 6 traditional football powers in the SEC, Tennessee seems to have the most difficult route to landing high impact players. Auburn does not have it too easy in-state w/ Bama less than 2 hours away. LSU, UGA, and UF all have a smorgasbord of in-state studs to recruit. Good job Dooley & staff. I'm pleased.
