Why didn't they do the bench press?
Looks like Butler was the only one

I mean he is an OL, 40 is completely irrelevant.
actually for DT's and OL's they do look at their 10 hard splits. TO measure explosiveness. SO the 40 is not irrelevant at all.
Not as much stock is put into it but trust me if their times are super slow or really fast it gets noted. Cades time was "normal"

All of the guys did fine. I don't think anyone lost money at the combine but Velus Probably made some and Alontaes 40 was good too.

For some reason this year almost no one did bench press or the shuttles. Not talking just about Vols I mean overall. Really weird and the 40's were crazy fast.. Among corners, only one guy ran slower than 4.57. Slowest RB was 4.65 and the slowest WR was 4.66 18 WR's ran officials in the 4.4's or faster. Heck, a 6'5" 246-pound edge rusher ran the same 4.46 as Alontae. but honestly, the story of the combine was probably the 2 Georgia DT's running official 4.77 and 4.78 (for context the next fastest DT ran a 4.89, and Butler who is pounds lighter than Davis and basically the same size as Wyatt ran a 5 flat. Those 2 guys are freaking scary. I am glad they are going to the NFL now.

I think he may be better at safety in the league...
He may be, but remember, we were short on players at both positions and will short on experience this Fall. on defense, the defensive backfield and the LB positions will ned for some of the new players to play a lot of football this year. They will get better as the season moves forward.

I thought so too until I saw that 40 time. He still might be, though it will probably be more of a hybrid safety/nickel role. Either way, I agree that he's going to be a great piece to a team's secondary.

Was listening to sports talk radio the other day and they compared it to the NBA Slam Dunk contest....a joke

Think about it. Basically it boils down to the 40 time. Seems like the NFL doesn’t really out much stock into actual game film, just the combine score. Take John Ross. He ran the fastest 40 time ever and it got him drafted in the first round. Ahead of guys like JuJu Schuster and Cooper Kupp. I mean it’s becoming laughable.

I know bench press is not end all be all but 17 reps. I really hope our SC program kicks it up a notch to to bottom this year

It's not even that. They get that a pro days. Can calculate it on film. The only real value is the one on one interviews
