Well thanks guys, overall, with the comments made so far I feel a bit more comfortable with Sanders. Fans of GTech were basically saying good riddance when we hired Nix so this talk is a bit more soothing. I feel like Sanders would be more of a slight upgrade rather than a lateral move from Pat Nix, if for anything his QB coaching skills. I still hope he is a backup plan though.
Im not worried about talent. Shannon and all our assistant coaches can recruit their ass off. Im just worried about putting players in a position to use their talent and having the athletes know what the hell they are doing.
Good QB coach. Could be a decent OC if given full control and had a mentor to guide him.
Not the worst hire possible. He had a good run at UT, but was handcuffed most of the time.
His best showing was in 2001 against Michigan in the Capital One bowl. That was all Sanders. But he had a ton of talent, which helps.
How do we know which games he was in complete control and the ones where he was "handcuffed"? How do we know what extent he was allowed to do what he wanted?
This seems like pure speculation to me.
The fact is that our offense was offensive the majority of the time he was OC is all I need to know.
It seems he was a good QB coach though.
I personally don't think he is that great of a QB coach. He did a great job at UT as a runnning backs coach. But all you have to do is look at the play of Erik Ainge during his time here. He improved greatly from his junior year till his senior year. The difference was Randy Sanders and David Cutcliffe. He is a loyal guy who is a good football coach but he isn't a Cordinator in this conference. Very predictable play calling and really didn't bring anything new to the offense that was noticable from a fans point of veiw. That could have had something to do with Fulmer vetos. No one knows but the coaches. But Miami could do better IMO.
Do you feel like Shannon will last at the "U"? I have a feeling that is were Tuberville is going to end up after next year myself.

Honestly, I think he got the short end of the stick here. He seems to be an above average QB coach, and his OC skills are yet to be determined. I don't think many conclusions can be drawn from his time as OC here. Fulmer was more OC than RS during that time.
All in all, I would say not the worst choice, but pretty unproven.
