How about a realistic situation that we can all agree on?

Do you think Cignetti would be undefeated at this point if Indiana were in the SEC?
Of course not. As I've said, no one thinks the B1G is as tough as the SEC, BUT he took a team that was trash in the B1G and in the first year turned it completely around and maintained that success.

Even if it were the Southern Conference, I'd want to know how a guy in the NIL and portal era MAINTAINED that team after a magic year.

If I'm at Indiana (and I know little of their team) and I get noticed that first year for helping them turn it around and get in the CFP, I'm looking to jump ANYWHERE else in the B1G because the chance of Indiana being where they are AGAIN this year would seem pretty remote. But here they are. How?

How can we get some of that in this era where guys like Joey A have a superb year at App State and rather than stay there, he rightfully tries to get the heck out of there to UCLA for more money and more recognition and luckily ends up at UT. Why the heck didn't Indiana get raided by better schools to play ball for?

Maybe? But heupel needs to feel the heat first to force any change! As long as the sun shine pumpers continue to make excuses for him and his apathy then nothing will change! So up folks that criticize folks like myself that want some change basically you are enabling his apathy’s JMHO!
Do you seriously believe CJH is apathetic about the program and the close losses this season?
Do you seriously believe that you care more than he does?

If so, i kind of feel bad for you.

That defense got shredded whenever it faced a competent offense. It works as long as we have elite DL talent and only play teams with bad quarterbacks. It’s garbage.
Defense got shredded by Ohio State, who shredded every defense they played, other than Michigan. Ohio State shredded that amazing UGA defense in 2022 in the playoffs if you recall.

Our secondary play was amazing last year as well. McCoy, Gibson, Brooks, Carter, and Thomas played exceptionally well together.

Depends on the schedule. They do indeed have a not of NFL talent on that squad. If they had OM's schedule, I'd say there is a solid chance that are undefeated.

Carson Beck took us apart pretty bad. We really benefited from not playing many good offenses. We were fortunate to get a hobbled Mertz and then Lagway in his first game in about the worst possible place to start out.

I believe even last year’s squad was pretty hilarious on third and long.

I think he’s a good coach but not elite. I would put him in the 8 to 10 win a year category, I know we’ve beaten Bama two out of the last four but we still struggle with Georgia and Florida is a crapshoot. The schedule gets a lot harder next year in my opinion Although we don’t have to play Georgia. He needs to make a couple of staffing changes I think particularly on defense and he needs to figure out how to manage the clock and get the team to perform better in general and stop with all the sloppy penalties and play. I don’t think we should fire him, but if he doesn’t make changes and 26 is a repeat of this year then his seat is gonna get very hot. I’d love to win a title again but at this point if we can win 9 to 10 games a year consistently and have a shot at the playoff I guess that’s respectable it sure beat the heck out of whatever we were 10 or 15 years ago.
