Houston & Dormady

Never understood why Botch recruited him. An even bigger puzzle was why he commited to TN. Botchs system was designed for a monile QB. Dormady didnt really move that much. He had an offer from OkSt. He should have went there.

Looking back on it his offer list was suspect. No offers from OU, Texas or TT.

I thought Alabama had offered him? You are right that he was a terrible fit for that system.

Technically, he can redshirt this season and have another year of eligibility. I'm pretty sure he never RS'd here. Of course, he'd probably have to transfer again to have any chance at playing time.

But I'm with BOT. Never made any sense why he wanted to play for Butch given that he was a completely terrible fit for Butch's offense. Of course, it's an even bigger indictment of Butch that he didn't seem to know what sort of QBs worked within his own system.

It was either due to his potential star ranking improving as his shoulder improved which would pump up Butch’s recruiting ranking. Or he wanted him as a scout team QB since we play a lot of pro style QBs

His dad was a coach on high school level. He was injured during Jr season.
Teams lost interest. Butch let UT sell itself against smaller school offers and UT won
Butch went for the easier recruit rather than putting a lot of effort with a premium q b and losing recruiting battle

The weird thing is Houston appears to run an offense that doesn't suit him either.

Watching the game and Dormady is standing on the sideline. Kinda sad for the kid. Transfers, sits out and his last year can’t win the starting job. Lessons of life.
Same thing as Keller Chryst and most of our fan base craps all over the guy and he’s actually on our team.

Neither seem to have the type of Alpha personality to go in and win a job year one.

That's not true with Chryst at all. Chryst lost the job because he doesn't have the arm that JG has. As a "Field General", I think Chryst is probably slightly ahead of JG. As a guy who can throw a precision point pass 30+ yards down the field, I don't think there are too many people better than JG. Chryst is good enough to be a starting SEC QB. It's just that JG is better.

This is true Chryst is a good QB. You don't start for a premier team in the PAC-12 and have success (while it may be marginal) without at least being a good QB. He was promised a chance to compete for the starting position here at UT and got beat out by a guy who more than likely is going to have a very successful career here at UT. Him not winning the job is a testament to how much JG has grown since last season and is a sign that great things are coming in the future.

Dormady on the hand should have never started a game here at UT IMO. Butch screwed the pooch with his mishandled QB competition and threw Dormady into a situation where he couldn't succeed. Dormady is the poster child for QB development under Butch Jones. When he got snaps against Northwestern in the Outback bowl it was apparent that his footwork and mechanics were no where near up to snuff. Almost 2 years later he starts vs. GT, he has the exact same issues and the results were poor. He by all means appears to be a good kid but he is continuing to show by being 3rd string this season to a freshman that he is just not a good QB.
