Hopson leaning towards returning

Scotty's ability is better than his performance on some nights. I believe the term "grossly underachieved" should have been shelved somewhere around the end of last season. The guy has been really good this year with a handful of notable exceptions.

His ability is incredibly high; thus, the high expectations we all have for him. He has the potential to be an All-American, but barring a significant change in his mental make-up, I just don't see it happening.

I don't think he's even close to realizing his potential. That's why I think he's an underachiever.

Why do people keep talking about this guy's potential? He's been here three years, he is what he is! Count on him and you'll get your heart broken every time! Young man can jump out of the gym and seems to be a solid citizen off the court. However, he is not fast, not quick, is a follies film when he tries to dribble, does not look to pass, does not make the rest of the team better, shoots a pitiful percentage (he's the leading scorer because he shoots so much when he's not pouting), and has no basketball IQ.

At what point is he just what his performance says he is?

No way. Let him go. Like I said, he's a cancer to this team. He has the physical skills to be the best player on the floor every night but wears his feelings on his sleeves and acts like a baby. With this sapose to be "his team" he showed zero leadership this year and that hurt us a lot. The guy still hasn't learned jr varsity dribbling and more than likely none of that will change if he stays. He can be explosive at times but he's been more of a let down than anything else.

sapose?

I understand that we are all disappointed in scotty, but everyone who has ever met him can attest to the fact that he is a very nice kid. I'm surprised any Vol fans would want him to go.

He shoots .455% from the field, .377% from 3. He is very quick. I don't know his 40 time.

If he performed consistently the same way, then maybe you could. At his best, he's a top 5 player in the country. At his worst, he doesn't even belong on the floor. He has a tremendous amount of talent.

I'd be willing to bet the next coach won't let that attitude slide like Pearl did.

The bar is set high for Hopson for a reason. A 6'7'' SG with that kind of athletic ability and shooting touch? Scotty has certainly improved every season he's been here, and without him, this team would probably be under .500, but Hopson's potential is so much more than he has shown thus far. He has shown just flashes of it.

I hope he stays.. He's a good player that could be great, if only he would realize how high his ceiling really is.

I don't believe you could swing it anyway to make a difference. I just don't think he's a good guy to have around when you talk about team chemistry. If he's your leader and starts shrugging his shoulders and shows his emotions like he does, what does that say to the other players?

U should change your sig:)

Pitiful was an overstatement but I don't want him shooting in the clutch (not generally a worry as he'll pass it to a teammate with 3 seconds on the shot clock) and, no, he is not quick - quick first step but the ball usually doesn't accompany him if it requires a dribble - besides that first step he is of average quickness at best, a deficiency compounded by his laziness.

He is consistent - consistently inconsistent and consistently absent in the big games. That is what he is. He'll throw down some highlight film dunks against inferior competition or on a defensive lapse or as a part of a well-designed play; otherwise, his game is average at best.
