Hoping better developer than recruiter

Where are you seeing that Ole Miss finished ahead of us?

2018 Football Team Rankings

Somebody yesterday did the same thing except it was Miss St then. Neither Miss School finished ahead of us. Ga, Ala,AU,Flor,LSU,A'M and S.Carol did. I mentioned this yesterday when it kept getting brought up we were 8 in the SEC. Outside of #1 GA and #7 Ala the 3-8 schools fell between 12-20. There's very little difference in any of the teams that were in that 3-8 in the Conference. Even the player average per school gap was very small. But those fans would find something else to complain about. It's usually the ones who aren't giving JP a chance to see what he can do but instead choose to dig for reasons to hope for failure.

If recruiting was his thing then we are in for some More dismal seasons on rocky flop

This post is insane. With the time he had, I thought he did a good job. If he hadn't have gone after the top recruits, you would have been saying why didn't he do that. He did and the longstanding relationships the kids had with other schools won them over. Can't blame Pruitt for that. If next year is mediocre, then you have a valid point.

More to consider regarding High School ratings and how it relates to the Vols current recruiting ranking.

Alabama 2018 champions had just over 30 players ranked
4 or 5 stars on the roster. Georgia,Oklahoma and Clemson combined had one more than Alabama. How were they competitive with Alabama then ? Certainly not the rankings. Maybe coaching or game plans ?

Also did you see on Rivals the high school rankings for the starters on the Eagles/Patriots teams ? I bet close to 50% were not over 3 stars.

I do think the rankings are used way too much to determine how good teams are. The recruiting services miss on as many or more than they get right.Like JP has said as has most other HC's that they could care less about rankings. It's more for the recruits and the fans than anything. Most kids improve their ranking by hitting up tons of camps. But there are 4* and *5 talent kids who get overlooked because their families can't afford to send them to the camps.I took the 247 Class Rankings and Averaged out the best 6 year class averages from 2012-2017.Take the 6 year average of Oklahoma #14 with 2 CFP Appearance's (0-2) With No CFP Championships. Now look at the 6 year average Clemson #15 has 3 CFP Appearance's (3-2) with 1 CFP Championship. Same timeframe for Georgia #7.3 with 1 CFP appearance(1-1) No Championships,S and 6 year span for the rest of these teams.Ohio St #3.8 has 2 CFP appearance's(2-1) With 1 Championship, Fla St #5.1 has 1 CFP Appearance(0-1) with No Championship's, USC #7.8 with No CFP Appearance's, Auburn #8.3 with No CFP Appearance's, LSU #5.8 with No CFP appearance's. Alabama #1.0 with 4 CFP Appearance's(5-2) With 2 CFP Championships..Mich St.(0-1) Wash (0-1) and Oregon(1-1) are the other 3 teams to reach the CFP playoffs but didn't do their Averages but none would be top 20 average in the same 6 year span. I did do Wisconsin because of their recordsince the CFP Started. They haven't made an appearance yet but in the last 4 years they are 45-10. A 10 win season,Two 11 win seasons and a 13 win season.T hey finished ranked in the polls at #7, #9, #21 and #13. They are 10-8 vs The Top 25,4-0 in Bowls, 2-2 vs SEC( Ala,Au and LSU) and beat USC, AU and Mia,Fl in their last 4 bowls. So it can't be said that they are only beating non ranked teams.Their 6 yr average recruiting ranking is Wisc ##42. And most years the Big 10 is either the best Conference or the 2nd best. So outside of Ala, the final recruiting rankings aren't the sole factor in determining Wins,Losses or Championships. Yes they do help but it disproves the notion you have to finish top 5-6 to win championships and complete.LSU's #5.8 avg is 2nd in the SEC. But yet the last 4 years they are 35-16 (20-12 in the SEC) 2-2 in Bowls and zero 10 win seasons. GA #7.3 is 3rd and Auburn #8.3 is 4th. Yet Auburn is 33-20 (18-14 in the Conference, 1-3 in Bowls with one 10 win season. USC #7.8 will be the last example. They should be owning the Pac 12 and be in the CFP every year or 2 yrs at the very least. But are 38-16 (27-9 in the Pac 12)Have won the Pac 12 once in that span, are 2-2 in Bowls and 11-12 vs ranked teams. Fla St #5.1 should be owning Clemson and the ACC if recruiting rankings were to determine that stuff. With the 25 rule now being strict with very little exception it just evens the playing field even more and gets more teams in on elite players. Sorry it's so long but got tired of reading that we fell further behind with the #20 class. This disproves that. If it didn't Ala/LSU, Ohio St, Fla St, USC and GA would be the only teams fighting for playoff spots every year and Clem,OU,Wash,Wisc would never come close to making them.
