no it was according to his lawyer. We can always trust lawyers to be honest right?

I dont think there is more to the story. If there was the cops would have came back with a warrant. As far as I know they havent.GBO

The fellow you are quoting did not comment in the article about why the agents showed up. He is, however, noted to be some sort of specialist in gun rights cases.

Which I find even more intriguing.

I don't think I'd be running off to tell people about it .... unless I had an agenda and was maybe going to claim it was about that, and not about something else.

I'd be telling everyone about it so I had some protection against further actions and/or retaliation.

I'd tell everyone I could possibly tell.

It was unclear from the article, did they have a search warrant or was the photo enough probable cause by law to enter the home?

So if an African-American is denied service at a restaurant. That person should just shut up and take it. And if they tell someone about it, then they just have an agenda?

And there's another odd twist. The complaining in the article, by both the NRA guy and his lawyer, is that they wanted to verify that his weapons were registered. They were in a safe and the lawyer/homeowner apparently told the cops he would not open it without a warrant. And so now maybe the cops will go get one.

So what is this REALLY about? Well, from the article, it is not at all about the child abuse issue and how that was handled. Rather, it looks like this is being used as a launching pad just to complain about verifying the legality of the guns.

I'm not at all saying the homeowner and the gun lawyer were wrong about that. We don't know enough about the facts of it to know if a warrant would have been required. But I think we can safely say that the gun verification is what is pissing them off.

And I just find that an odd thing for them to be fixated on, arising out of these circumstances, anyway.

Are you effing serious? Since when is a warrant not needed for law enforcement to search private property?

Could it be that whoever made the call to the cops was a Anti-gun guy and knew he was a Pro-gun guy? Maybe want to start some trouble for him, hopeing something if anything might come of it. For telling everyone what happend---I would to. Anytime anyone has their rights stepped on by the PD or Govt' folks, They should let everybody know about it. GBO

This is what all rightfully law abiding gun owners across America are in fear of. Police coming out in force banging on doors in the middle of night "demanding" to see your guns & if they are properly registered in the right order with out a warrant to search or even probable cause......blah blah blah. And while we are at it let's see what's under the couch of this family. Don't forget to "spot" check the closets & what's under the bed without a "search warrant" while we're here. We may find an RPG hidden out back.

Certainly possible. Seems unlikely someone would go to that extreme, and I imagine they screen the calls for someone with a person vendetta against the subject. But its not impossible this was personal in some way.

It's called exigent circumstances. In other words, an emergency. Police chasing a suspect into a house, screaming coming inside a residence, etc. Of course, that didn't exist in this case.

You as a lawyer should know this.
