Ashley Morgan who comes in next year can catch and play 1st base...she is also a lefty who pitches in high school

Is there no base line anymore. That girl was 2 steps on the first base grass.

I honestly think the ump called her safe before he realized the runner was in the grass and when Ralph came out to argue the ump copped an attitude and turned and walked away as if to say you're down 9-1 with 3 more outs to go - deal with it.

Yeah I hate when umps are ready to go and the game isn't over

I'm not surprised at a loss - this team is too young and the pitching too untested to expect victory after victory in the SEC. But I am surprised at their failure to compete. They should have been rested and ready to go.

The only positive was that Morrison - despite giving up 3 runs - pitched reasonably well. I still say if she can give two innings reliably it will help immensely.

Well his job is to watch the play and call it correctly which he did not. On the replay he was looking directly at the runner and unless he is blind he ffffed it up. Would not have changed the outcome but call the damn play correctly. SC is not a good team and we both know it. If I remember correctly they beat a very good Ohio team 10-0 earlier in the year and someones response to me was that SC did not face the same pitcher we did. Well maybe this pitcher tonight was the one Ohio did not hit. lol.

Ralph said in the pre-game interview to ask him Sunday how the team did. There are two more games to go.

I was hoping the game would end at the 6-1 score if we had to lose. That would mean the silver lining was that Morrison pitched pretty good and with confidence.

Agreed! Good to see Morrison do what she did tonight...its about winning series so hope we take the next two games...hopefully the young team got the nerves out tonight

Someone here said that the linedrive went off Leaches glove. I did not think she got any of it but my old eyes don't always get it right.

Wrong. She is a quality SEC pitcher with a ton of experience.

The LV's are young and are going to have to go through some growing pains.

Well dude you can have an opinion just as I can. Her ERA is 1.55 and she has beat no one significant . So she is a senior and if you call that ton of experience then ok. She will not be a top 15 pitcher in the SEC at seasons end either, and SC will not be in the top 7 in the rankings. Yes the LVs are young and only beat Oklahoma so far as well. She would be the 3rd pitcher on most teams. These pups have to grow up and they will hopefully.JNHO

The South Carolina pitcher is a decent pitcher. But let's not pretend she's something she's not. She didn't make any of the four all-SEC teams last season and there's a reason for that. It's because she's decent but nothing special. This loss was all about Tennessee being mentally not ready to play. You could sort of tell Ralph expected it with his comment to ask him on Sunday how he thought the team would do.

Off-topic, but Mississippi State beat Texas A&M tonight. The same Texas A&M team that was ranked 5th in the nation and has an inside path to the SEC Championship because they don't play any of the top teams. LOL.

Two seasons ago, TN played SC in the SEC opener at Knoxville and SC hammered them in game 1 and got a lead in game 2. There was some kind of come-to-Jesus meeting and TN came back and won game 2 in extra innings, then won game 3 and according to Ralph that set the tone for their World Series run.

I guess the same thing is going to have to happen this season.

That was in Columbia. Tonight was SC's first win in Knoxville since 2002.

That weekend two years ago, SC won game 2 as well in extra innings, then UT won the Sunday game.

I don't see why it don't other than we most likely will not get another game in this weekend.

Should be able to get both in. It'll be cold, but clear on Saturday and Sunday. The concern was snow overnight Saturday night, which is now in doubt.

Often thought the Weekly's recruited too many speed players vs power hitters. They seem too concerned with athleticism and not concerned enough about skill. Turning powerful athletes around to make them slappers just because they're fast is just asinine

Arnold didn't have her control tonight walked a few batters then in an effort to get a strike grooved a couple pitches that SC hit home runs. We had a chance to be in the game but bases loaded and then weak hitting cost us a chance at huge innings.
Pitching and timely hitting wins games in the SEC when players get on you have to be able to drive them in.
Games like this happens I remember we run ruled Auburn twice last season. Teams have bad days today is the day to come back and get a win.

I think that they tried going the power route a few years back and it did not work out that well. They had some so called power hitters from the right side, Koenig, Aldrette,Spigner and Akamine who ended up transferring because they could not cut it, except Aldrette had other issues as well. I would be 99% of all the major programs will turn smaller speed players around like we do. In many cases that has happened in summer leagues before the girls even get to college.

I didn't turn the game on til the bottom of the 3rd. Did they mention Moss early on? I would have thought they'd go with Moss - Arnold - Moss this weekend. They never mentioned her after I turned the game on.
