Heupel is so close, guys

And start running his practices like a real practice. Joey said in an interview that we are not practicing serious enough and hinted that they were too relaxed and light hearted for his liking. People immediately jumped on the defensive and said that’s just player speak for we can always practice harder. That isn’t the body language I saw out of the statement.

Coincidence that we have been watching practice snippets and saying where is the intensity for years now? The excuse the sunshine pumpers give us is, hey the media gets a few minutes I’m sure it’s better behind the scenes.

We have looked absolutely atrocious after every single bye week we have ever had under CJH, so much so I was nervous coming out of the bye week this year rather than the feeling of confidence it should evoke. At what point are all of these things “coincidences, regular speak, or looking too far into things” and taken seriously?

All he has to do is get a couple of top names out of the portal, overhaul his defensive staff, fix game/clock management miscues (including silly penalties), make the team tougher by fixing S&C (Vandy, Georgia, and Oklahoma whipped us in the second half), and get recruiting up into the top 5 in the SEC.
Whew.....great to hear. I thought it was stuff he should have been doing already. Why have you been sitting on this valuable info? 👀

Looks close to insurmountable.

I don’t even think he needs to overhaul the defensive staff. This time a year ago we had the #2 defense in the SEC. Now we are #14. If Banks can convince Heupel that he knows why and present a good plan for fixing it, there’s no reason to fire anyone.

Right!

Just need to get about 20 more ballers.....especially a 5*** free safety.

Having that guy fixes a zillion other problems.

Aka, watch the Georgia free safety this year

Elite safeties change a lot. Having 2 lock down corners also opens a lot of creative opportunities. Having a disruptive DT can turn a bad play call into a winning play. We didn’t have these things this season. Elite defenses do.

Exactly!

We won eight games without our two best corners ever seeing the field.

People seemed to forget that in November.

7-4 against FBS teams. 0-4 against a team with a winning record. 4-4 in the SEC. 3 losses in Neyland Stadium. Skull-drug at home by Vandy.

That's a lot to forget. This November, or by next.

See...I didn't remember any of that stuff. It is hoops season now.

Ah, yes. The ungrateful fanbase firing a great coach due to unrealistic expectations, ultimately sending us into a decade of turmoil. I'm excited to see how part 2 of this film turns out.
The unrealistic expectations of not getting trounced by Vandy in Neyland? Guess we should just do away with all expectations.

What are your "realistic expectations"? This is where the real problems arise within our fanbase, IMO. UT's fans CLEARLY do not share the same expectations. And that is a problem. Bama fans are in agreement as far as expectations. LSU fans are in agreement. OSU fans are in agreement. UGA fans... and on and on. We have half our fans satisfied with 8 win seasons and a Fla bowl game and the other half expects UT to play for SEC titles and the occasional chance at an NC. It's hard for me to wrap my head around when UT has proven it can win championships, but now, most fans think it's a pipe dream and they'll just keep the tailgate and the occasional win over a rival and be happy. I wish I could do that.
Only when the said rival is down.

Is this a joke? That’s a lot. I don’t think he needs to overhaul his entire staff. I think Banks needs to go or change his scheme. S&C for sure. Everyone is suffering due to that terrible hire. Top 5 recruiting will not happen without a significant boost in NIL.

Not saying its ok but not your typical Vandy. They went 10-2 for a reason. If you told me.before the season we'd be 8-4 i would've told you I could see it happening. I could've seen anywhere from 6-6 to 10-2. I do think we need a new DC. Never been a fan of Banks.

8 wins isn’t a terrible season. But I think it’s also important to use some perspective, especially if a like trend follows next season. None of those 8 wins were impressive. None against winning teams except ETSU in someone’s 5th year. We were constantly outplayed, out coached, and adjusted on and taken advantage of after nearly ever 1st half of football.

you guys have to remember what Heupel inherited! no other coach in the history of football had it so bad as Heupel. it will take him at least 15 seasons to contend with Bama and Georgia for the SEC Title!

you stupid fans have such unrealistic expectations!!!!!

We were a middle of the pack team this year. Pretty much what I expected. Just so happens Vandy was a little better than I expected. The problem is Aguilar played good enough to win us some of those 4 losses and the defense was absolutely atrocious so that was the part I didn't necessarily see coming.
