Heupel Assistant Coaches Announcement Thread (Official)

Coffeevol, the slow.moving process has done nothing to hold back recruiting. The clusterf..I of the two weeks before then did that quite nicely.

Don’t think we’re looking to add high school signees with these 5 remaining spots. Leaving them available for transfers. But keeping our current players has been a bear.

I admittedly do not know that status of the whole roster, but don't we have some Seniors coming back due to the extra year they have been given? Would that not alleviate some of the potential issues that we would have normally had with filling out our roster?

I hardly ever post, but long time lurker... I did see where Austin Uke has a UT scholarship offer and he tagged Glen Elarbee. So not official but assuming Elarbee is onboard (or working for free because he likes Heupel???)
Now that would be a good scenario for Tennessee. Coaches from other schools feel so bad for us, they are helping us recruit.😎
GBO!!

Tough part is I'm sure given the VOL spot light they're under and the significance of the next hires are trying to decide and pursue the best not the fastest they can. Which interest cant be very high given the last decade and NCAA. But dragging it out will hurt recruiting to low of profile will hurt recruiting. Tough spot for all. Unfortunately most likely will have to take what we get! And pray they have a decent amount of success this season to excite future recruits

I don't think hiring coaches is as hard as some may think because of possible NCAA sanctions. If they do come here they will be paid well, they will be in some of the top facilities in the country have a chance to be part of the bringing back of storied program and as for future hiring, people will know since they have been under the watchful eye of the NCAA they would have done things right as far as recruiting. If the right staff is put together and win it could collectively be a win win for everybody. The key to all of this though, like most things is WIN,

Coach Osovet has officially been let go

Tennessee football: Joe Osovet not retained by Josh Heupel

This one is a little bit of a surprise to me, he seemed like a good fit for Heuple's system.
Osovet was never fully appreciated for how important he was. He would have been who could have been interim and done fine. I hope he has a great career somewhere, I think he is a gem that we didn't utilize to the fullest.

I kind of feel bad for anyone who hitched their wagon to Pruitt. They're much worse off now than they were before.

I was given the impression that Steele was almost begging for the job. if he is that certain he needs to his the road for another gig somewhere else.

If that report is true then I'm sad that we lost Osovet.

He could have become a important part of our new coaching staff and brought some new wrinkles to our O.

VFL...GBO!!!

The cream always rises to the top, eventually.
However, the optic of the Pruitt Era...is bad.

Coaches' circles will eventually get a whiff of what the real deal was and quality guys won't take too bad of a hit, hopefully.

Figured we needed this. Maybe? This guy is moving as slow as molasses. Has any assistant new hire been named?

OC-?
QB-?
WR-?
TE?
RB-?
OL-?

DC-?
DL-?
LB-?
DB-?

ST-?

JH knows this is a 10 year rebuild and is in no hurry to name assistant coaches, patience is the order of the day

Dammit 2 Hell. If you are going to call it official wait until there is something official. Wasting my time....

Interesting question as stated. I would GUESS that he could turn down the DC position and still hold us to a more generic assistant coach slot at the 450K. If I understand the two year deal correctly.

It would all come down to how the position is worded in the contract. If I'm UT and he says no but still wants to be paid, I hold him to the contract as a defensive assistant and make him a analyst of some kind. I'm done with coaches using UT as their personal ATM.

He could also be telling them, "Look I agreed to $450k as a defensive assistant, if you want me to be your D-coord, your gonna have to pay me like one" and at that point it would be up to Heupel to decide do I want Kevin Steele around long term or not.
