Here's what happened...

When they hit three treys in a row to start the 2nd half, I knew we were in trouble.

Was Gillespie's man all three times and the third three ended up being a four point play as he was fouled and made the free throw, Gillespie plays very hard, however, he's a shooting two guard, not much else, certainly not a point guard, all of Alabama's points in the first two minutes of the second half came there, that was even before Philon got wound up later in the half, team is getting worse as the season progresses given the lack of an offense or point scoring structure, ball screens are so 1990's it is embarrassing, can't even figure out who should inbound the ball to start a possession, Barns is living playing in the portal, which gets you a bunch of guys without the complete skill sets and a bunch of bad habits that can't be corrected in a season or maybe two,

Every major program is living in the portal. You almost have to do it now. Barnes has done great developing his own guys, and there is a long list. Hopefully, we keep Boswell, Evans, and Brown because they are on their way to be being very productive college players. But the last 2 national champions have had several instrumental transfers. March is won mainly with experience, and transfers end up being upperclassmen who start to excel at a higher level.

Having very few scorers has become a CRB trademark. With Ament out, the only guy that would even think about taking that last shot was Gillespie. Alabama knew this. Gillespie is 6’1” and good, not great. When there’s only 15 seconds left and you know the 6’1” guy will 100% be taking the shot, it’s pretty easy to defend. I like CRB, but a big part of his philosophy seems to be hoping the other team isn’t shooting well.

That was probably the last team where I remember being glad when the season ended.... that group just didn't click. I'm getting that same vibe from this group (originally I thought they were like 22/23 team, but nope, that team had mental toughness and didn't blow 5 double digit leads)
With a healthy ament they can definitely make the sweet 16 like that team. But I’m not so sure they can without him

I remember when many said before the season started that this is Barnes' and the Vols most talented team ever on paper. I say my @$$ on that. The way we've played in some games say otherwise. This team has really underachieved this season. We will be lucky to get out of the first round of the SEC Tournament and/or NCAA Tournament. I'm sorry, but we could have a much better record if we wouldn't let our foot off the damn gas and blow big leads. Get on me or whatever, but this year's team has been such a disappointment.

5 times this season isn’t a coincidence. Ament wasn’t hurt all 5 times
Exactly. We still had a surmountable lead earlier in the game. But we took our damn foot off the gas and let Alabama get back into it and paid the price. Would Ament have helped us pull this one out tonight? Maybe, who knows? But I am not going to blame his injury as the reason we lost. We still could have, and should have, won this game. And the other games we blew leads; he was playing in those games. This was supposed to be our most talented team ever on paper. And we're going to be lucky to get out of the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. This team has been a huge disappointment and has woefully underachieved. I will be kind of relieved when this basketball season is over and done with.

Why force the ball into the paint when you miss most of the shots? Plus the guys miss their free throws if they're fouled on those shots. May as well play for the 3's. So many wasted scoring chances. Then you end up with a really tight team in the final minutes. Rick needs to let them play.

Unfortunately what happened is what always happens with Barnes teams regardless of the year. Offense just sputters along at crucial times often for extended periods. We scored 12
points in the last 10 minutes of the game. That is pathetic.

I’m not even mad about it. Has built a great program but it will always be this way.

This team can't shoot and when they get tired and stop playing defense in the second half they get used. The only thing they are good at is rebounding but bad guard play and inability to hit layups cancels it out.
