Here's what happened...

Could it be that this team just isn’t that good? Happens from time to time.
Team is pretty good for the first 39 minutes. Our guards play out of control on the last minute of close games and often end up turning the ball over. One or two of them try to do top much and the others seem to be to scared to shot the ball when they are open. We have lost 3=4 game this year with this pattern. However, we would have won the game if we could hit free throws.

You pretty much are who you are March…they have no 3rd scoring option…with a scoring 2G (Rice or McNeely) and more contribution from Estrella (or somebody) in the post, they might be really good…portal additions, outside of Gillespie, have been duds, by in large…

Unfortunately what happened is what always happens with Barnes teams regardless of the year. Offense just sputters along at crucial times often for extended periods. We scored 12
points in the last 10 minutes of the game. That is pathetic.

I’m not even mad about it. Has built a great program but it will always be this way.
I remember I was talking to a buddy of mine I used to work with who is a diehard Vols fans. I brought that up to him a few months ago. I was saying to him how frustrating it is that with Barnes, we always start out great, then our offense always sputters towards March, and we always seem to lose a game we should win in the NCAA Tournament. I then said, "Why the hell can't we take that next step?" Then he told me this.

He said that we didn't bring in Barnes to take that next step and win Championships. We brought him in so we can have much needed stability. And true, he has brought us that. And I was hoping that he'd be the guy to bring us a Natty in Men's Basketball to Knoxville. But I am starting to doubt that will happen. Do I want him to retire or be fired? No, I won't say that. However, I wish he would figure out how to get it together, form that complete "team" that can finally fulfill that wish to bring a National Championship to us in Men's Hoops. But I am starting to think that my former work buddy is right and that the only thing he will provide for us is just stability.

What happened was 19 missed layups to go along with 0 Tennessee guys shooting over 50% while allowing 3 Bama guys to shoot well over 50%, with 2 of those guys shooting 66%+ from 3.
Our bigs are dominating the offensive glass but have nothing to show for it! They must score or get fouled inside and quit missing bunnies! Simple as that

Having very few scorers has become a CRB trademark. With Ament out, the only guy that would even think about taking that last shot was Gillespie. Alabama knew this. Gillespie is 6’1” and good, not great. When there’s only 15 seconds left and you know the 6’1” guy will 100% be taking the shot, it’s pretty easy to defend. I like CRB, but a big part of his philosophy seems to be hoping the other team isn’t shooting well.
Carey and Felix have been offensive disappointments. They miss way too many makable shots. Estrella does as well I guess but has been more consistent but is always always hurt .

One step at a time. We need to get to a Final Four first. The last two teams were good enough to get there but ran into bad matchups with the National runner-up both times in the Regional Final.

I have a feeling we may have to wait until at least next year because I don't believe that this year's team is good enough for a Final Four. We'll be damn lucky to make it out of the First Round.
