Here Comes the Recession

Check your numbers on mortality rate...

"A recent study of COVID-19 cases in the United States estimated a mortality rate of 10% to 27% for those ages 85 and over, 3% to 11% for those ages 65 to 84, 1% to 3% for those ages 55 to 64 and less than 1% for those ages 20 to 54."

Do you know why that recent study said they “ ESTIMATE” ? Because the numbers are skewed and all over the board . The sad thing is , there was never a real effort to capture real data and there’s no way to tell now . All anyone can do it guess and estimate .

Odd you tell me to check my numbers (implying they’re wrong) but never actually provide the overall number. Antibody tests in Germany (a more accurate measure) are indicating an overall death rate of .37%. I can provide a link to the study if you’re interested.

This virus is a leftist dream. You get to sit on your tail all day, doing nothing, and virtue signal about it. “I stayed home all day, because I’m good, good!”

On top of that, the government sends you money to do it. And you get to pretend that economics doesn’t save lives by saying dumb things like “limiting the spread of this disease is more important than the economy”

Bonus points: you also get the economic collapse you’ve wanted and the opportunity to leverage it for more government control

Part of the problem is scientists aren't certain what the denominator is in the ratio for mortality rate = deaths / # of people infected.

But, hey, what I do I know. If you feel strongly that it's no big deal, go live your life licking elevator buttons for all I care.

This entire post is completely false; it's nothing more than a right wing talking point. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Progressive and I have just as much skin in the game as any Conservative on this board relative to the economy. I have a 401K, investments, and I depend on the income from my job to pay the mortgage, bills, and college tuition. I have no interest is seeing a recession, or worse, a depression. You assume that because I despise Donald Trump that I would like to see the economy collapse to hurt him, that couldn't be further from the truth. Trust me, I have bigger fish to fry than worrying about how Donald Trump is doing in the polls, I certainly would never sacrifice my financial well-being simply to see Trump fail - he's not that important to me.

Then what are you worried about (I'm not insinuating anything just a legit question)? My wife works in healthcare, and I'm a deputy in a mid sized county in TN. We've seen nothing alarming enough to warrant an indefinite shutdown. The doctors and hospitals she works with are not overcrowded or stressed. We aren't cleaning bodies off the streets. Anecdotal and statistical evidence makes this all seem absolutely insane to me, and it has since the beginning.

Nope, just a hard working American that wants whats best for my family and this Country.

I was actually referring to the parts about Trump . Nobody that has two brain cells still bumping together would want our economy to crash , lose their 401k , or see our product supply chains threatened just to get a president out of office .

I'm not worried, but I'm certainly "mildly concerned" about the economy and the pandemic.

That’s why I quoted the antibody testing. It’s a more accurate picture of what the denominator actually is

Unless you’re 80, having a 401k right now is a great thing. Up your contributions if you can.

Here's my numbers: The mortality rate for humans after birth is 100%. It just comes faster for those over 85.

For the naysayers out there thinking CV-19 is no big deal...

This is what is commonly called “cherry picking”. You find a time frame during which covid deaths were exceptionally and then say “look it’s almost as bad as heart disease”

The difference is, covid was only that bad for 1-2 weeks. Most of the others are constantly killing more people.

The global recession was inevitable, the virus was just the catalyst for our market woes.

It's like keeping the whole class out of recess for 3 bad kids.

Staying at home and living as a hermit or going out and licking elevator buttons...those are the only two options?
