Yes, I agree........ Yes, all fan fanbases have at least a few repugnant people, but I must say UT fans have more than a few hateful fans, and absolutely relentless. Remember the Schiano slaugherfest that made national front page headlines? Well, remember after that, UT couldn't hire even an average coach, Dave Doeren and Dave Clawson being 2 examples. Nobody seemed to want it and they had to settle on Pruitt, who was way in over his head. UT is at least a top 20 destination for most coaches, but look no further than it's hostile and hateful fanbase for much of the rejection of top notch coaches unwilling to come here. The problem in college athletics (especially D1 football) is indicative of society at large. The only thing that matters to the vast majority is the "Benjamins". The "end justifies the means". If you have to back-stab, lie, manipulate,...whatever... "It's all 'ok'. Everyone understands". Death threats from a dentally-challenged moron is not excusable. Neither is jumping ship to your school's biggest rivalry when the going gets rough. It'll be interesting what the NCAA does former UT athletes. Their eligibility could be challenged. It'll also be interesting to see his development at Alabama vs. Tenn.

Not true about Doeren. He was offered and was willing but the fans rejected the hire until Doeren pulled out and changed his mind due to the pressure.

I have no doubt that we have some fans that cross the line on this website and in other media/platforms, but I guarantee you that we have plenty of trolls who go out of their way to pretend to be Vol fans just to make the whole look bad. Our players the last three seasons weren’t at those other schools. They were at TN, so it was TN fans they were seeing it from.

UT has a massive fan base. Of course you are always going to have the few crazy's in the mix. Using that is nothing more than an excuse. Obviously UT overall has a great fanbase.
Whoever mentioned that it was the fans fault on the whole debacle of having to hire Pruitt. Incorrect. That debacle was blamed on the fans although the two top sides of the donors were the ones that botched that. You had both sides working against themselves for power. I think that is the biggest issue at UT. You have Anderson VS Haslam. Those two need to find a middle ground to meet and work together to stop all of the internal BS.
This fanbase is just hungry for better than mediocracy. They deserve better as well. They deserve for football to be a powerhouse again.

It's not a justification. It's impossible to justify threatening a stranger's life because of poor performance in a football game. You are missing the point of the statements. For sure there are some over the top fans but any chickenshit coach out there scared and complaining about a passionate fan base should just shuffle along to some other school's offer because they're not going to be the answer here. Not a leader...

We could have hired Freeze last year. If we had, most of the guys who transferred would still be here and our 2021 class would have been stacked. Probably would have Simpson committed for 2022 as well.

Well, I would include in that crowd the people hoping that Maurer transfers because he retweeted the post about death threats. And, saying it happens at other schools is just an excuse to let it happen here. I used to think UT fans were a few notches above the bammers, but apparently their behavior is the standard if we defend it here by saying it happens there.
