So would it be fair to say that some players didnt like Jones approach and others didnt mind? Is that really anything earth shattering?

I disagree. Not to go all snowflake on you, but you can tell a kid to toughen up in the right manner. Raise your voice, put him through a few Oklahoma drills - ****, take him to the woodshed and give him a few spankings. It's what the best do.

It's another thing to insult a young man's character by calling him names, especially in front of his teammates. That's not the way to get someone to listen and respond to you. If my coach called me a ***** repeatedly I'd want to punch him too.

It sounds like Botch had little man's syndrome.

Are you a father? What father would not want to protect his son? I probably would have had a talk to Butch, man to man. I've never heard stories of Saban treating his players like $hit, or emasculating them.

Coaches try different stuff all the time in an attempt to get players to respond. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Not saying its right, but is it really that big of a news story?

I had a coach call me out in front of the team once. I got emotional and went to his office and told him I quit the team and I wanted to fight him. He looked surprised and stunned. He asked me to sit down and listen to him. He told me he was using me because team looked up to me and he thought it would prove that all of us make mistakes during games. I told him berating me in front of the team didn’t motivate me but frustrated me. He never did it again. The Helm’s could have handled it differently instead of bringing out facts that no longer matter.

This happens all the time. It's no excuse, but it does. It seems like when a coach has no substance, he reaches for eighth grade intimidation, and this is the difference between a coach who has no substance, and one who does. Other coaches get on players, and they do it respectfully, while others, like Jones, obviously, have no real character, and this is what happens to them.

Yes, I am. And I have a family member on THIS team.

I would never raise a kid to live in some pollyanna reality where they get their feelings hurt because someone challenge he's their manhood.

All I'm saying is if he is trying to make a case, I'm not buying it. If there is more to it, then I'm all ears.

That’s how you handle things, sometimes not talking or jus being emotional makes it worse, that’s how my father would told me how to handle it.. I agree

But some kids don’t have parents telling them how to handle things and the Helms who knows what lies Butch told them.. anyways this is like pounding Volnbama all night long the sack.. gotta move on from ol Butchy boy and glad he’s outta here..

It's not that big of a story in the grand scheme of things, but I think it speaks volumes as far as why so many guys transferred out of the program, and why Botch eventually lost the team.

It was clear that the guy was all talk and no substance. You can't berate a player by calling him a p*ssy if you're a p*ssy yourself and haven't won jack. It would be slightly different if we were talking about Saban here.

It's all part of the catharsis of a fan base that wants to feel okay with a coach losing his job -- to reassure themselves that it was the right decision.
