When tony basilio was on all day after butch got fired. There where players that called in and said That Butch was beyond just being tough and manly, but abusing players verbally/mentally. Was also threatening scholarship probations as leverage and what not, and he was the sole reason for the players that left. ( they where in a similar situation ) Some of the players that play elsewhere would say they're new team was like night, day compared to how butch did things. Plus some of the injured players were being "punished" and not really injured because they wouldn't get lined up with his ideals.

What players called in?

So would it be fair to say that some players didnt like Jones approach and others didnt mind? Is that really anything earth shattering?

If you don't think that goes on in most every locker room in the country, then you are kidding yourself. Look no further than Military Boot Camp. Young impressionable kids will respond to being berated in the correct fashion. Sometimes you just have to piss them off. I don't think he had the guts to punch CBJ, maybe he did. All in all, glad Jones is gone. Strong on recruiting, very weak on improving.

I disagree. Not to go all snowflake on you, but you can tell a kid to toughen up in the right manner. Raise your voice, put him through a few Oklahoma drills - ****, take him to the woodshed and give him a few spankings. It's what the best do.

It's another thing to insult a young man's character by calling him names, especially in front of his teammates. That's not the way to get someone to listen and respond to you. If my coach called me a ***** repeatedly I'd want to punch him too.

It sounds like Botch had little man's syndrome.

I despise Jones, but the Helm's sound like a bunch of *******.

Are you a father? What father would not want to protect his son? I probably would have had a talk to Butch, man to man. I've never heard stories of Saban treating his players like $hit, or emasculating them.

Coaches try different stuff all the time in an attempt to get players to respond. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Not saying its right, but is it really that big of a news story?

I had a coach call me out in front of the team once. I got emotional and went to his office and told him I quit the team and I wanted to fight him. He looked surprised and stunned. He asked me to sit down and listen to him. He told me he was using me because team looked up to me and he thought it would prove that all of us make mistakes during games. I told him berating me in front of the team didn’t motivate me but frustrated me. He never did it again. The Helm’s could have handled it differently instead of bringing out facts that no longer matter.

This happens all the time. It's no excuse, but it does. It seems like when a coach has no substance, he reaches for eighth grade intimidation, and this is the difference between a coach who has no substance, and one who does. Other coaches get on players, and they do it respectfully, while others, like Jones, obviously, have no real character, and this is what happens to them.

Yes, I am. And I have a family member on THIS team.

I would never raise a kid to live in some pollyanna reality where they get their feelings hurt because someone challenge he's their manhood.

All I'm saying is if he is trying to make a case, I'm not buying it. If there is more to it, then I'm all ears.

That’s how you handle things, sometimes not talking or jus being emotional makes it worse, that’s how my father would told me how to handle it.. I agree

But some kids don’t have parents telling them how to handle things and the Helms who knows what lies Butch told them.. anyways this is like pounding Volnbama all night long the sack.. gotta move on from ol Butchy boy and glad he’s outta here..

It's not that big of a story in the grand scheme of things, but I think it speaks volumes as far as why so many guys transferred out of the program, and why Botch eventually lost the team.

It was clear that the guy was all talk and no substance. You can't berate a player by calling him a p*ssy if you're a p*ssy yourself and haven't won jack. It would be slightly different if we were talking about Saban here.

Yeah, you know if you are going to cry about it all day you could just hit that little ignore button and you would be shielded from anything that might offend you.

You know what I’ve been here awhile never have put someone on ignore.. and I’m not gonna start today or ever, you got the wrong somebody pal, never offended.. For you it might be different..

Cool, just keep crying then, unless of course you have something of substance to add to the conversation, instead of crying about my opinion?

These kinds of stories always come out after a coach is fired. Remember how we all found out (only after he was gone) that Dooley was a jerk who didn't know his players' names and wouldn't say hello to them when he passed them in the hallways of the ATC?

It's all part of the catharsis of a fan base that wants to feel okay with a coach losing his job -- to reassure themselves that it was the right decision.
