True, Shuler was a much better passer, but even as good a runner as he was he was not the same tank of a man Tebow is versus college competition. Tebow is toughest because of all the short yardage stuff, however:
I predict Tebow gets no more than a 3rd round pick and ends up pedestrian at best in the NFL. The NFL plays alot more cover-2 than college and his arm is not good enough to beat the really good corners he will face. Plus that running stuff won't cut it. NFL will stand for NOT FOR LONG WILL YOU LIVE IF YOU KEEP TRYING TO RUN THAT WAY. Guys like Ray Lewis would blow Tebow up if he doesn't slide.
If Shuler had been surrounded by the talent that Tebow has, then he would have won the Heisman. Shuler was a better passer and a better athlete than Tebow. Tebow is just bigger and harder to tackle.
Negative. There's no debate that Tebow is a good athlete and solid team leader. If Shuler had been surrounded by the talent that Tebow has, then he would have won the Heisman. Shuler was a better passer and a better athlete than Tebow. Tebow is just bigger and harder to tackle.

That goes without saying. It isn't even close.

B.S. If you want to say that Tebow is a better overall QB, then THAT goes without saying, but to say that he's a "smarter" QB is a very debatable statement.
Shuler had a lot of turmoil to overcome on the sidelines, a la Majors v. Fulmer, his Sophomore year (and IMHO if it weren't for the feud b/w them, that team might have gone done as one of the best) but he still lead them to a bowl respectable bowl win. Also...he lead what, to my knowledge, is still the most productive offense in TN history. He played through a seperated shoulder vs. Bama--and likely would have beaten them handily had it not been for that. He's 2nd (last I heard) in most UT passing records. and...HAD HE STAYED (I'm still bitter) he likely would have had a very good shot at the Heisman.
So please tell me how Tebow is smarter than Heath....at least to the point that "it goes without saying."
...on a side note:
Shuler is still my favorite--and least favorite--Volunteer of all time. I LOVE Manning, believe me...but I was 12 or 13 when Andy Kelley left UT. His last two seasons on the hill were the beginning of my UT fanaticism. When Shuler came on his sophomore year, I was doe eyed....but when he left, I he broke my heart. But man, he was one heluva quarterback.
