Given the success that Tebow has had in Meyer's offense, how well do you think Shuler would have done?

I think he would have flourished. He was a better QB in the pocket than Tebow and had better speed.

True, Shuler was a much better passer, but even as good a runner as he was he was not the same tank of a man Tebow is versus college competition. Tebow is toughest because of all the short yardage stuff, however:
I predict Tebow gets no more than a 3rd round pick and ends up pedestrian at best in the NFL. The NFL plays alot more cover-2 than college and his arm is not good enough to beat the really good corners he will face. Plus that running stuff won't cut it. NFL will stand for NOT FOR LONG WILL YOU LIVE IF YOU KEEP TRYING TO RUN THAT WAY. Guys like Ray Lewis would blow Tebow up if he doesn't slide.

+1 quality post.

And while I don't "disagree" w/your prediction of TT, I don't necessarily think arm strength will be much of an issue with him, at least not as much as him having spent 4 years in a spread offense that has him in Shotgun the vast majority.

Alex Smith & VY (although he looked REALLY good in the preseason--which I hope is a sign of things to come) are the poster children for reasons NFL teams should be wary of spread O QB's...they can't read coverages & they're used to being the best athlete on the field. In the NFL DT's are fast, so TT can forget about his miracle runs.

All that said though, I wish him the best of luck. I know most Vol fans can't stand the guy but he has a great testimony for God, and (so far) he practices what he preaches (no pun intended).

I know everyone will disagree with me but Heath Shular was a better QB than Tebow! Heath had a much more complete game. Tebow is a glorified fullback, thats it. Who cares how far he can throw the ball? He is not accurate at all! His WR all have 4.3./4.4 speed, thats why he completes passes deep. If he is a 1st round pick in the NFL, he will be a bust!

If Shuler had been surrounded by the talent that Tebow has, then he would have won the Heisman. Shuler was a better passer and a better athlete than Tebow. Tebow is just bigger and harder to tackle.

I agree. I saw a couple of old games recently of Shuler from when he was a junior, and I don't think we fully appreciated just how great of a qb he was at the time. I got to see him play quite a bit in person (I know a ton of you did too), but I will never forget sitting on the 12th row in the south endzone against Louisville. He tore them up.

Tebow is a freak of nature.. agree about him getting killed in the nfl if he doesn't slide at the end of runs..

anybody else think that somebody might use him as a TE in the nfl?

I'd rather have Tebow as a college QB just because he is a guaranteed 4 yards everytime he plows forward. We would never have any problems on third or short of goal line situations.

What are your opinions with Tebow in a wildcat style offense, such as played by Maimi or Philly....

My apologies, this is a Shuler thread.

Negative. There's no debate that Tebow is a good athlete and solid team leader.

A lit of guys could hae win the Heisman in UFs 07 offense, but that doesn't mean the kid doesn't have to make plays. He's just not the passer UF homers want him to be. He's a scary bastage rolling left with the ball.

If Heath had the same amount of playing time Tebow has had we would have had our first Heisman winner.

Have you ever stood face to face with Shuler? I'm 6'4'' and he is bigger than me. He was tighter in college, but he is still a big tough dude!

Shuler was one of the best QB's to be at UT all time. These threads have been hot & long many many times. Even debated between Heath & Peyton. No matter what your opinion of our best QB, Heath is one of our all time greats!
He had good talent, but maybe not as good as UF's talent with the blazing speed. Heath could run too, don't forget. He won us some games with his feet (check my avitar)

Heath was better than Tebow as a complete QB.
Tebow is the all time best rep. for UF, the NCAA football & a real good rep. for The Lord!

That goes without saying. It isn't even close.

B.S. If you want to say that Tebow is a better overall QB, then THAT goes without saying, but to say that he's a "smarter" QB is a very debatable statement.

Shuler had a lot of turmoil to overcome on the sidelines, a la Majors v. Fulmer, his Sophomore year (and IMHO if it weren't for the feud b/w them, that team might have gone done as one of the best) but he still lead them to a bowl respectable bowl win. Also...he lead what, to my knowledge, is still the most productive offense in TN history. He played through a seperated shoulder vs. Bama--and likely would have beaten them handily had it not been for that. He's 2nd (last I heard) in most UT passing records. and...HAD HE STAYED (I'm still bitter) he likely would have had a very good shot at the Heisman.

So please tell me how Tebow is smarter than Heath....at least to the point that "it goes without saying."

...on a side note:

Shuler is still my favorite--and least favorite--Volunteer of all time. I LOVE Manning, believe me...but I was 12 or 13 when Andy Kelley left UT. His last two seasons on the hill were the beginning of my UT fanaticism. When Shuler came on his sophomore year, I was doe eyed....but when he left, I he broke my heart. But man, he was one heluva quarterback.

Anyone who thinks Tebow is going to be a solid Pro QB is either delusional, never watched pro football, or an absolute moronic imbecile.

And he'd be great for the wildcat, because the pro wildcat is more focused on up the middle runs and that's what he does best. Look at Ronnie Brown against the Colts. Tebow could do that.

He is my second favorite. He was awesome to watch and could throw and run. I thought he was a Steve Young type player with a stronger arm. I fault him for two things. Leaving the Vols early and running as a Democrat.

Shuler wasn't as big as Tebow, but he would have done well in that offense. Not sure he could take the pounding that Tebow does, at least he couldn't in the NFL.
