Heading down to the Swamp

I wouldn't wear UT gear. That would be like waving a confederate black around in the projects. A fight just isn't worth ruining my time. I would scream like crazy during the game, though.

Have some pride! Who cares if a bunch of assholes hassel you? It's worth it after you win!

You sir are wrong, pride has nothing to do with manning up and going to the Shi*7 stain that is Gainesville. I've been there twice (both losing efforts) and if it weren't for my Gator friends I'd have ended up in jail or worse, the fans there are far more obnoxious than any other on the planet given there success.

Gainesville is much worse than the ghetto that is Tuscaloosa. MUCH worse. I'll never go back to that town again, unless I'm driving up 75 and need to take a dump.

LOL I've never been to Gainsville, I'll take your word for it.

I never post here but felt the need to reply today. They are by far the worst fan base in college football. Their lack of class and decency shows up to its fullest on game day. Not sure if it's because most are probably not originally from the south or what? It's like you aren't in the south anymore when you are there.

I've been to every SEC football venue multiple times and many other away games over the years and nothing compares.

Meyer's first year was the worst although the 90s were bad too. I've witnessed groups of UF students trying to pick fights with any UT fan that walked by and chanting in unison the most classless and vulgar phrases you can imagine. This right in front of children(Vol and Gator kids). I actually saw a Gator mom go up to a group of students who were yelling disgusting phrases at some UT fans. She had her young kids with her and she began to yell at them to stop. They started chanting "F U Wh@&%" back at her.

Before anyone says this happens at every school, they are wrong. A little ribbing is fine and expected, but they are the only place I've been where the fans are completely out of bounds and confrontational.

That being said, once inside, the actual game setting is outstanding. Top 5 in the country for sure. And one of the loudest stadiums around.

anyone wondering about how a trip to Gainesville will turn out should read this post.

Welcome to VN Director :hi:

I heard the tailgating isn't all that and the campus police/police are hard on alcohol. Heard it's easy to get locked up...

I don't know why any Vol fan would want to go there this year. As loaded as the Gators are, it is going to be ugly. I am a major Vol fan and have been my whole life but I would never go to that stadium unless we had a good chance to win.

I go every year with a mix of gators/vols. Before the game most everyone is hospitable and fun. Gville has more than its share of beautiful women (as do all SEC schools IMO). After the game, if we lose, you will hear lots of **** talking. Its the same at any SEC stadium. I have no more problems in gville (always wear my gear. IMO anyone who doesn't is a puss) than my gator friends have in Knoxville.

i've been to gainesville the last three times. the first of which we won, which was awesome, the only people at the bars after the game were wearing orange.

that being said, last year, me and my buddies were actually tailgating surrounded by UF fans, of course there were some words said between us, but it was all jokingly. actually had one guy come up to us, with his tebow jersey and headband on, and tell us we weren't that bad, we shotguned a beer and had a great time.

after they win, they are extremely obnoxious. i've literally seen UF fans run into a busy street and jump on moving cars. it was unbelievable.

as long as you keep your mouth shut, you'll be fine. i've never came close to getting in a fight. if someone's talking ****, i just keep walking and smiling.

Me and one of my friends, on our way to Tampa, drove by BHG stadium on the eve of the game (I think it was in 99 or 2000). I'm a Vols fan, he's a HUGE Seminoles fan.....he even had his car painted burgundy and gold. I had Rocky Top on a CD, and we drove laps around the stadium with me leaning out the car window singing at the top of my lungs. Other than a LOT of dirty looks and middle fingers, only one person actually yelled anything back.

However, my best friend Drew is a Gator fan. I look anxiously forward to the day we win. Our bet every year is that if UT wins, he buys the beer for the next game, and has to sing Rocky Top in front of his unit's formation while wearing a UT ballcap, with video evidence since I'm not there anymore.

If UF wins, I have to buy the beer, and do the Gator chomp in front of my formation, while wearing a Gators ballcap.....with video evidence.

I'm so tired of having to wear that ugly blue and orange hat.....

Yes, well, luckily, according to your Vol brethren, its only the Gator fans who are obnoxious, antagonist, and baiting people for a fight, right?

ya, I lost a good shirt last year thanks to a vol tailgate throwing some sort of substance on the clothes of passing gator fans that wouldn't wash out. every fan base has their fair share of complete a-holes.
wasn't upset after the win/night cap- alls well that ends well. thought knoxville was nice and will be going back.

Hey....all I was doing is singing Rocky Top. What's the harm
in that?? 'Least I weren't yelling profanity......

I've been to the Swamp the last 3 times UT has played there. I really like watching games there. As long as you avoid the fraternities set up on one side of the street you will be fine. Everyone else usually just gives you the normal "ribbing". If it's a day game...it will be freaking hot! It's fun down there! However, I'm gonna skip this year! LOL Think I may try Oxford!

a few? try the majority. gator fans are the exception.
I'm sorry you have had a bad experince with from the sounds of it several different fan bases....Myself I get along with most everyone, the Gators that came up here last year weren't that bad...The worst ones IMO or LSU and/or Bama

I can tolerate the UF fans---most are OK. But bama and uga fans really get me going--more obnoxious than any fans in the SEC, especially when drunk and crazy, as they usually are.

Bama and LSU fans are really the worst....I don't travel to the road games becaue I would rather watch those at the house if I could in the comfort of my own living room but I'm sure its everywhere

When I went to the UGA game in 07 all the UGA fans I ran into were very nice and seemed classy..One of my best friend's Dad is a UGA fan and its hard to find a nicer guy..I know that's true for every fan base though

My buddy (who is a huge Gator fan) and I are planning on heading down to the Swamp this year for the big game. Besides an over priced scalped ticket, what else should I expect? I was talking to another UT fan last night and he brought up thrown beer bottles and an on foot police chase.

I've been to every Tennessee game in Gainesville since 1985 game (the hottest ever there). I'm never had any altercations down there. Stopped from time to time where they park RVs and invited myself to tailgate with Gators. Never been refused.

Walking along the strip outside stadium, you will hear a ton of chatter fro gators, amny drunk. but nothing really bad

I went in 2001 and 2003. Had a great time both times and got some verbal stuff walking up to the stadium but nothing too bad. A girlfight did break out between a Vol and Gator down the row from me though.

We won both times though so that ALWAYS helps make the away games more enjoyable. lol Singing Rocky Top in the Swamp as all of the Gator fans are leaving their roses (for the Rose Bowl) in the stadium (2001). It was great.

One good thing about florida fans---they like to drink as much as UT fans! They always offer us beer and bourbon when we walk around the campus on game day! Their women don't match up with UT quality, but they aren't bad, especially after a lot of beer and bourbon.

My buddies and I went to the UT/UGA game last year in Athens. Even though we lost, we had a great time and really enjoyed Athens. We plan to meeting up this year for the Florida game. How does Gainesville compare to Athens as far as the bar scene, restaurants, and tailgating?

Also, has anyone been to Ginnie Springs for inner tubing? If so, do you recommend it?
