If Tee were the obvious choice, he’d have already been a HC, period. This really is a meritocracy Al. You should know that. Your career was over far too soon, and not because of racism sir. Also, think about it like this:

Two qualified candidates emerge, equally capable on all dimensions, one is white, one is black. In what alternate reality does the black coach not get the job in 2021? Especially if, as is purported, he can be hired for much less? This is a business, racism or whatever you think is being “perpetuated” here is simply bad economics. Sorry, you virtue signaled the Overton window right off the ****ing house.

Exactly. Today; Universities and the NFL are bending over backwards to hire Minorities. I really don't want to hear Albert's BS anymore. The BEST get elevated. Period.

Tee Martin should go join Tom Herman's staff at his next coaching stop. They can go start BLM riots together....march all over campuses spitting cop hating rhetoric like Herman has implying to kids cops will drag you out and kill you when you are pulled over for being Black. I lived in Long Beach, California for 14yrs. I'm tired of being called a racist, homophobic, xenophobic, White privileged, uneducated, Nazi scum bag fascist bigot....yet we are suppose to now heal and come together after years of calling millions of Americans those things. Big Al can go suck on an exhaust pipe for all I care. Tee sucked at USC as an OC...otherwise he'd still be there with that job. Race has nothing to do with it. Being qualified by your resume does.

Yes, there is a reason. He told us no when we tried to hire him. Not saying it was the wrong move for him, but opportunities are there.

Warning, somewhat lengthy post, if TLDR.
At some point in any coaches career successful enough to be considered for a HC job @ either the College or Pro level there will come a point where they are judged by wins and losses . Let’s call them exhibits A & B.
Exh. A
Winners hired, retained and or promoted :
David Shaw, Tony Dungy, Mike Tomlin, Nick Saban, Bill Belichick , Pete Carroll.

Exh.B
Losers,hired, fired and or demoted :
Sylvester Croom , Mike Dent, Derek Mason , Derek Dooley , Jeremy Pruitt , Will Muschamp.

Was there a time when HC’s were unfortunately hired based solely on race ? The answer is yes, John Merritt would have won at any level . I would venture to say that there are many people who sadly do not even know who he was . Eddie Robinson is another more well known name that would have been successful beyond the level of HSBC&U’s .

Does a level of disparity in hiring considerations perhaps still exist? I would say that schools and organizations could probably do a better job of identifying AA up and comers . I would also say that currently , in my opinion , people in the positions of hiring and firing DGAF about skin pigment when considering the hiring of a new HC. In the final analysis the W’s & L’s speak for themselves .

As it pertains to Tee Martin The University of Tennessee has afforded him every opportunity imaginable to the point of even naming a street after him. I hope that some day Tee gets a chance to be a HC but in all likelihood he will have to start at a smaller program like ETSU or USA, the latter program that just recently considered him but went with someone else . To be hired instead of just considered he will probably want to ditch the victims role and tell guys like AH to STFU.

I posted earlier , maybe in this thread but that doesn’t really matter about getting to know coach Maurice Fitzgerald . He was referenced by @de1conley. Because my family has owned and operated a business in downtown Nashville for over 60 years we have had the pleasure and sometimes displeasure of meeting pretty much every “local Celebrity “ that you can imagine . My 92 y.o. (And still kicking )VFL grandfather and Coach Merritt got to become friends through mutual Civic organizations. I am only 43 so I just vaguely remember meeting him once @ Swetts when I was maybe 4. I do remember that I knew he was a big deal over the way that everybody acted around him . I also remember he was smoking a dank / stinky cigar 😂.

My grandfather is still sharp as a tack @ 92
& will still tell you that John Merritt is one of the best coaches at any level of all time . Regardless of my grandfathers opinion his .828 speaks for itself .

Hopefully this isn’t a serious question. There are 0 black head coaches at UT. All sports. 0 diversity. There has only been 3 in the history of the school.

There has never been a black chancellor. I can go on but you can just open your eyes to the obvious.
