Has any other "elite" program fallen this far?

If you take out the Ivy League schools UT is 9th all time in wins. I know Alabama went through a couple of mediocre patches , but has any other historically dominant program fallen as far and stayed down for as long as we have? The only one I can think of that comes close is Texas right now, and they don't even compare. It has been 17 years since we won a conference championship, and it doesn't look like we are turning it around anytime soon.

Texas is like Tennessee right now. Both good programs with crappy coaches who can't compete with the big boys.

Oklahoma after Switzer and before Stoops

Gary Gibbs
Howard Schnellenberger
John Blake

They were pretty bad at least for OU's standards

Texas doesn't even compare guys. They won a national title in 2005 and played in another title game in 2009. Even when compared to other programs that have fallen off it is depressing when you realize how far we have fallen.

Washington, Colorado, Nebraska. LSU and Oklahoma were both down the entire decade of the 90s. Minnesota was among the elite from the 30s through the 60s. They've been irrelevant ever since.

Colorado. Maybe not at the top of most lists, but has a good W-L record over the course of their program.

Guys I don't think you are realizing how bad we really are. You talk about modern Nebraska, they have won 9 or more the last 7 seasons. We would kill for 9 wins.

Our players do t remember us ever being elite. We haven't been elite or relevant in recent history. Ranked what, top 25 2 times since 08?

We've got to get out of this entitlement mindset. We are a historically dominant program. We've made some bad hires over the past decade. At some point we've got to support a coach longer than three years. We've got to have some contonuity/stability. I hope Butch can get it turned around. He's too conservativr offensively...maybe because the OL won't let him be. But things have got to change. I can't remember the last time we had a long pass play to a WR. Tired of seeing other teams hitting 70 and 80 yard pass plays and we dunk and dunk down the field.

If you have a dominant defense and offensive line, you can play conservative.

Michigan, UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Penn State off the top of my head. Some decided to play big boy ball and find a coach instead of trying to get a bargain. We, well, we've been bargain shopping and it sows.
