Hammered on ESPN

Did they hammer Ohio State for hiring him? I don't think so...

OSU's out is they were unaware of what the other coach had to say about Schiano as the records were not released until 2016. Now he is their hot potato, who at OSU was behind trying to rehab this guy and get him another job in football?

Tennessee fans are not the ones responsible for this **** show. They are the ones responsible for stopping an even bigger one. What would've happened once the media started vetting deeper into Schiano's background and "involvement" with the Sandusky issue. Guarantee the Tennessean would have! Would've been in the national media in no time and would've been anti-recruiting fodder for other schools.

Ask Booger if that is a risk he would take with his alma mater...

The job should never have been offered to Schiano. Period. The leadership smells rotten from the head down on this one.

It is NOT the Tennessee fans.

Again my issues werenÂ’t even the hearsay 3rd person account from PSU. I was upset because this was clearly Curries only option and the guy has a worse record than the guy we just fired coming out of the same conference. He also has many questionable characteristics and has too many questionable antics. The final straw was this was clearly haslams guy and was below the second tier of coaches being mentioned by the fan base. Honesty every time he was mentioned there wasnÂ’t a single positive reaction from anyone here or any other media platform.

Schiano was being brought in to fine tune somethingÂ’s beforw his second run in the NFL at the browns.

I don't agree it was the only option. I've seen credible reports that we made a serious run at Mullen and Campbell, at the very least. Campbell buyout was too high and Mullen chose Florida. And is likely very glad he did.

Currie better pound the pavement now.

You understand the difference in a staff coach and the Head Coach right? If not, there is a big difference. One is regularly interchangeable, the other is the face of the program.

And despite that, Schiano was hired at OSU prior to the releasing of the implicating testimony. So your argument is irrelevant.

Truth hurts. We are only going to get scraps now.

Schiano is lower than "scraps." Would rather have scraps than a coach with questions hanging over his head in regard to something as severe as child molestation.

IF he witnessed something and didn't immediately kick the Sandusky's a$$ on the spot, he isn't the right guy for the Vols.

None of the folks on Paterno's staff are clean, IMO. Even the "whistleblower" didn't act immediately, to his shame. When you see a child being molested, you intervene immediately, or you're not a man. (Much less a leader of men...)

IM just wondering why so many people are defending Schiano. His players hate him, other coaches hate him, Peyton cussed him out, the PSU allegations, he sucks as a coach etc. etc. He is not a fit on the field or in the office.

eff ESPN, when the heck has ESPN had anything good to say or promoted anything positive about UT football? Wrecked PM's Heisman chances for a DB and we should give a rats axx what they are promoting??? c'mon Man!

On point! Screw ESPN, they have always had a love affair with northern teams. They can say whatever they want but I will never sweat what any of those Yankees think about vol nation. I still think this is a very attractive job and we need a coach with at the very least UT ties. I am sick of the administration at this school, which none have our best interest in mind. Football is the life of any major southern university and the fact our administration over the past 10 years has yet to figure that out is very frustrating to us all.

Whether he knew of the abuse or not is one thing but lets not lose sight of who this guy is, he is another hard headed coach with a history of abusing his authority and players. I mean that whole Tampa Bay ordeal should tell the story, he did not even last a season and a half. We do not need or want that kind of coach, we need to stop the bleeding. I am sick of all of our rivals laughing at us and whipping us on the field, get someone in here that can develop the talent and is not afraid of Saban or anyone else. I never wanted Kiffin back until now, he at least has no fear of taking the job and the pressure that comes with it. It is time for Fulmer and Peyton to step in and let their voices be heard and let the Haslams know they are not in charge anymore.

Right or wrong, the world we live in today considers perception to be at least as powerful as reality. We don't make the rules so don't pretend like your not part of it.

S'funny, I think a lot of folks on these boards are about to get front row seats on the whole perception is reality lesson -- just not in the way they think.

Booger McFarland and Mike Golic took the UT fans to the woodshed this morning. Booger said no coach would want the job now unless its a lower level assistant.

It isn't just ESPN. There is going to be widespread condemnation of this fiasco in the sports and new media before it's over. Yahoo Sports has two articles on it this morning.

ESpN now supporting those who support pedophilia? Not surprised.

They'd be on Tennessee's ass if theyd hired Schiano.

Dumbass Currie is responsible for this. Schiano should have been so far down the line that they'd never got to him. Hell, there is a good reason why other less qualified assistants at OSU got jobs and he hasn't. He's radioactive!

Exactly what I was thinking. Like it or not, the overwhelming perception nationally is that the lynch mob in Knoxville yesterday was orchestrated by a bunch of immature hillbillies who were mad they didn't get their way.

Money talks. Booger would take a job on PBS at 3AM if it doubled his salary. Lower tier coach? How can you get much lower than Schiano?

Correct correct correct!! They are all tainted and none should be allowed to coach even a high school team. I can promise you this, if I walked in on any man molesting a kid no matter who he was or how high I thought of him I would have stepped in and stomped his a** in the ground, then called the police. I have an extremely hard time believing this went on for 20 years or longer and no one suspected or knew anything. I think far more people than Sandusky should have went to prison, the fact is so many innocent kids suffered at the hands of this monster because no one was willing to act. We are not Ohio State, we will not turn a blind eye just to win some games, the simple fact is we are UT and we are so much better than Greg Schiano. We made a statement yesterday and it was just as much a statement to the higher ups that we will not settle for mediocrity anymore.

Like state politicians and presidential press secretaries? CÂ’mon now. Anyone with a tv knows thereÂ’s a national witch hunt on right now calling out any person that ever said a sexually inappropriate word to someone. What good could come from inviting someone involved (directly or indirectly) with one of the worst sex scandals of abuse in college football history? ThatÂ’s a risk not worth taking for a coach that has never proved but to be mediocre at best.

The narrative that we are just pissed because Gruden is not going to come here is really bothering me. Like, I'm pretty sure the vast majority of our fan base understands that Gruden is not taking this job and the #Grumors are have joking at this point.

Thats obviously not what the Schiano fiasco was about.

So are you upset because he "knew" and did nothing or he is a horrible coach?

Both!

I can begrudgingly accept a mediocre hire but when you add on the baggage he becomes unacceptable.

I wasnÂ’t on twitter or marching on Neyland but I was already looking toward freeing up my Saturdays in the fall. IÂ’m not going to pretend I would quit the Vols entirely. I would keep eye on the scores and such but I wouldnÂ’t revolve my day around the games. Even the big ones.

Both are idiots. They should actually defend us for standing ground. I really had no idea GS coached at Penn State so I was ready to take him in. They should compliment not accepting this guy.

And if the hire had gone through, today they would have been talking about what idiots we were for hiring this guy. I wake up. I see which way the wind is blowing. I report the opposite.
