I find the complete hypocrisy in the age requirements.
Funny thing is I agree with you. If someone is considered too immature to handle a gun then that same person should be considered too immature to do many other things - like vote - to assume an educational loan - and the list goes on. We really do need to consider age and maturity and decide when a kid is ready to be considered an adult capable of making adult decisions. It's obviously not 18 and likely not even 21 across the board. The thing is maturity has a lot more to do with a person being responsible for himself or herself - like earning a living, living within what you earn, etc.
The problem is not everybody is showing that responsibility equally - certainly not kids who have never transitioned from learning (and likely accumulating debt) to living and earning responsibly. Therefore we have to take a stab at the age of majority - and it sure as hell needs to go back up to at least 21 - maybe more. That includes voting and other responsibilities.
