I remember the M16A1 had full auto. The M16A2 changed the full auto to 3 round burst.

I thought they deleted full auto and just had 3 round. Only three positions on the safety. SAFE, Semi Auto, and some form of Party Mode

When I qualified most of it was semi auto but they let us do a few rounds of burst. For ***** and gigs I guess.

Correct but fully auto has it's uses. They went to the 3 round burst because of Vietnam and the spray and pray waste of ammunition.

In basic we had the A1s and when I got to my first duty station they had the A2s. I don't think we started getting the Barettas until 92 or 93.
