Gun control debate (merged)

Sounds like a .22 is what they’re looking for.

You may laugh but I have a Smith & Wesson 422 that I’ve had for years . I’ve put thousands of round through and it’s one of my favorite pistols to shoot . I’d grab it just as fast as I’d grab any of my others and not have a second thought . You wouldn’t want to come at me with it in my hand . Regardless of caliber, just put the trigger time in .

Step one in owning a firearm: don't tell people you own a firearm. No sure what you are getting at here, but go for it.
I tend to disagree. Gun owners need to let other gun owners know that they are not alone. There are tens of millions of us and it's okay to support each other in our common exercise of the 2A. Upvotes, likes, and views are a source of validation for many people. If a sister wants to flash her new nine on social media, I say give her a thumbs-up.

I completely disagree with this. No one should advertise they are packing heat. Call it a byproduct of me having way, way, too many libertarian friends that rubbed off on me.

I was suggesting a small caliber in case they end up shooting at me

Once again, we agree on something. I am armed pretty much 24/7. I fall under HR 218; still an active LEO; and I have a Georgia WCL just to be on the safe side. But I always carry concealed when off duty, I'm careful to not "print", and there is nothing about my person (well, except for a Geissele ballcap which I am fond of), or emblazoned on my vehicle which gives any indication that I am or might be armed. I don't have a social media account, so no worries there. Being "invisible" is a good first step in effective self-defense, IMO.

As for me, I don't go looking for trouble, confrontations, or the "opportunity" to exercise my right to self-defense. Given the chance to walk away, I will. Thus, in the event that I have no other choice, it's to my advantage if you don't know I am armed until it's too late to do you any good. If it gets to that point, I'll take any advantage I can get, including the element of surprise.

If you wanted a fair fight, you should have brought a referee...

I think we're referring to two different things. Open carry vs. being open about gun ownership/enthusiasm. When I carry in public, it is concealed although there is a point for us non-"operators" where accessibility has to trump invisibility or else the tool is useless to us should wee need it.

It's a good thing you don't do other social media because you are an advocate when you post here. I would never advocate for something that decreases your safety. Not that i'm a fan of LEO's policing tactics but i've seen that advantage diminish over the years.

Yeah, I'm in the Gray Man club myself.

There are gun owners and there are 2A advocates.

I know this is going to come as a surprise to you , but you can be both . Just like anything else . It’s not some secret organization you belong to if you have the right password . Every United States citizen has the right to keep and bear arms .

I'm of the type that if one owns a gun(s), they shouldn't talk about it or broadcast it. Check Grey's statement a few posts up.

I just assume everyone does and start from there . I don’t mind telling anyone that I own a registered 22 pistol , that I’ve had for years . 🤷‍♂️

I was puzzled by the registered comment.

I use to trade a lot of things . I’ve had a lot of different firearms go through my hands but I think I have actually went to a gun shop and bought 2-3 in my name. One was a personal deer rifle though .
