Gun control debate (merged)

The world will hold its collective breath until the 4200 citizens of Dunlap enact this sham law. Then we can all laugh at you.
I don't live in Dunlap, I live in the county but your probably off on the number of citizens in the city by about a thousand.

However it looks like we just don't want to be left behind.

No, i laugh at hysterical local and state governments who waste time on laws that do or mean nothing.
So do you laugh at all those that pass laws making their city's sanctuary for illegal immigrants? That goes against not only the law but also law enforcement from following the law by making arrests or contacting federal officials like ICE & Border Patrol.

I can only speak for myself ( not for anyone but me ) . Its hard for me to consider giving up any rights I have, when the ones wanting to take them never stop wanting to take more from me and using misinformation to the masses to try and turn public opinion . Example ... the hot ticket item for the gun grabbers now is the AR platform better known to the public ( because of misinformation by gun grabbers and the media ) as Fully Automatics, Assault Weapons , Weapons of War . They won’t address the number and stats because they are not in their favor . Instead of addressing laws that are already in place , beef them up , or really just enforce them , they continue to want more and more. They even go so far as candidate( s) running for the highest office in the land , publicly telling me that they are for door to door gun confiscation. The grabbers are never happy with what they get , it’s never enough . That’s why I’m never willing to believe them when they say “ it’s just common sense reform “ . The main goal seems to me , is to become more and more like the European models , and this is not a compromise it’s a step by step process and example of how to eat an elephant.
I'll speak for myself. (only me) The first "debate" I participated in when I first came to the PF was in this thread. I had absolutely no clue the gun crowd was made up of such zealots. I quickly learned that they allowed no room for reasonable and rational debate and actions and that there was nothing that could be said to change that.
To me it looked and sounded like this:
You ask a guy at the dinner table to please pass the salt.
He responds, "No way! Today you ask me to pass the salt, tomorrow you will be asking me to wash your dishes, and it will never stop until you have me working as your slave."
When you walk away from the dinner table, you can't help but think that the guy is absolutely insane.

It’s hard to call one side that has rights in place zealots , when we watch presidential hopefuls tell us we will take your guns . There’s a reason why there’s little compromise and every idea brought up is a fight .

How is gun rights passing the salt?

The problem with you is you take the salt and keep it. When someone ask for the pepper, you keep it too. You are take and no give. Your version of compromise is ask for the moon and settle for a little less but never sacrificing anything. As with all liberals it all take and no give.

It was easy for me. I don't agree that kids have the right to bring knives and guns to school. I don't agree that Billy Bob has the right to walk into McDonald's with a fully automatic assault weapon slung over each shoulder. I don't agree that Junior has the right to have anti aircraft guns mounted on his back porch. I don't agree that Slim has the right to make unlimited gun purchases and then sell them out of his trunk at the local playground.

I can see this quickly devolving into the same idiotic loop as always.

You don’t own any firearm , many not only don’t own one , but think others shouldn’t as well . Where’s the comprise ? One side loses the other wins is not a comprise it’s a win loss .

Interesting isn't it? Zealots are fervent to protect rights. The folks looking to strip rights are not zealots...even though many laws have been passed. The "non zealots" want to restrict more. The "zealots" want to be left alone.

A reasonable request you expect to be met with a reasonable response.
Except the passer of salt loses nothing. You arent asking for the table salt. You are asking for the salt on his French fries. It's impossible (extremely difficult) to separate the two.

And you forgot. You didnt just express a desire for the salt. You also said you want the fries, burger, milk shake as well as the salt. You are just asking for the salt at this particular moment.

The 2A crowd has been rinsing the dishes for a while now since passing the salt for a few decades.
And for some reason in his mind he believes we haven't done anything but be a boor. Ignoring the fact that he is the one with all the food dishes in front of him and he wants to quibble that we are being greedy with the condiments.

I think we all won with the laws forbidding the things I mentioned, except for, of course, the ones who wanted to do the things I mentioned.

What?
Look at gun regulations that have passed over the past 40 years. You're claiming the 2A crowd is suffering from those laws?
I see it as just the opposite.

So since we all won , you must be happy and satisfied. Since there are now laws against this happening why are you wanting more ? Was the banning of fully autos not enough ? Was selling guns out of a trunk on the playground not enough ?

Your opinion is yours. Suffering is relative.

The laws which have passed over 40 years restrict or impede full expression of rights.

As long as everyone agrees that there are rational and reasonable limits from which we all benefit, it shouldn't be such a damn impossibility to have a discussion.......but it is.

I asked another poster a little earlier today to list just 2 or 3 freedoms that have been taken away from gun lovers over the past 40 years (after he claimed that the left had done nothing but strip their rights over that time period).
He never responded.
I'll ask everyone.
What rights have you lost over the past 40 years?

What has this got to do with what the Governor of VA is doing?
