Gun control debate (merged)

One thing I'd love to know. Who made self defense with guns a partisan issue? Last time I checked, the robber don't care if you're a republican, democrat, or even an anarchist.

I have no idea. You would think the Dems would want women and minorities in rough neighborhoods to be able to defend themselves. But instead their only arguments are ad hominems.

I feel like it's our responsibility to inform the uninformed. The battle rages on unfortunately....

I think most people who would prefer the knee jerk reaction of just "ban all guns" haven't the slightest clue of how guns actually work. It's surprising the number of folks I see, ages 18-35 that haven't even fired a firearm. We're about the same age, I grew up with guns, they're tools.
The world has changed tremendously since we were 21. Our battle is on the education front. I think you do a fine job on the legislation and Supreme Court stuff. I come at it from a moral perspective. Either way, we make a difference with everyone we reach. I've taken people who absolutely hated guns shooting and now they're gun guys. Once they get past the mental block that no one will be there to help them, all the rest just falls into place. Plus, shooting is fun and challenging.

I tend to try the moral ground side of the house. But it's hard to convince someone who thinks a rape victim that didn't defend herself is somehow morally superior to the woman who performed a perfect Mozambique on a would be assailant. And it goes right back to the link you just provided that she ain't gonna talk him out of it if he sets his mind to it.

Or trying to convince those that believe a duty to retreat is morally superior to those who exercise their inalienable human right to self defense. Not understanding that eventually you run out of places to retreat. And again, you aren't going to talk an assailant out of it.

The morality of self defense is always comical to see from the anti-gunners. "Well, you could use this, or this, or even this for non-lethal self defense!" Not understanding that sometimes LTL force just doesn't work. "Use a baseball bat!" As if you're always going to be in a living room where you can swing said bat effectively.

So I can apply the moral arguments, I just choose not to since it's hard to reason with the unreasonable. And I'll disagree with the educating the uneducated. I'll educate those that want to be educated. I have no problems having a discussion with those that believe in gun control, but are willing to learn about both sides of the matter and stay objective about it.

Actually, it's the opposite. I have found that most people who like to brag about the number of guns they own are generally very insecure people and are making up for many of their other inadequacies. Do you people really walk down the road everyday so scared to death of what might happen to you that you feel the need to tote a firearm? If so, I feel sorry for you.

How many guns do I own?

Ever hear me bragging about it?

I'd guess that makes me pretty self confident.

Being an anarchist might matter to a robber. He probably wouldn't want to waste his time for nothing. :)

Says the guy who is scared of a BB gun. When will you anti-guns worms figure out its not the permitted gun owners you have to worry about?
Take you inadequate comments and get back to your quilting bee.

I make well over 110 Gs and never have voted Dem. My in-laws aren't worth a plug nickel and always vote Dem. Small sample size I know but you asked for proof.

That actually proves my point. If you make less than $100k it would behoove you to vote Dem., if you are voting primarily based on fiscal, and not social, reasons.

I make less than 100K and pay more in taxes under Obama than under Bush. You are in progressive fantasy land that's the complete opposite of reality.

No. I don't fear death as I know what happens to my soul when I pass on. However if by chance that me "toting" a fire arm gives me even the slightest chance of me being able to continue life and watch my sons grow up then it's worth it.

I find it funny that "you people" use the slogan "of banning guns saves just one life it's worth it" . but are so against the idea that people with gun could save more. Get over yourself.

Gun control isn't about saving lives. It's about increasing the power of the state at the expense of the individual.

You seem scared. You shouldn't be so intolerant of what you don't understand.

It's funny that the weapons they screech on about were purchased "legally" by another person, yet didn't have the California complaint items installed.

And furthermore, the two used were not sold to those little ****s through a dealer as per California law.

So the whole argument is false. Not that I'd expect anything less of Mother Jones or MSNBC.

Of course. They're just using the life saving motto to push it. Even though their fun free zones are working against that.

Doesn't prove your point at all unless your point was dumb people vote Dem.

Keep trying sport. I'm guessing the next thing you'll say is "I know what you are but what am I?"

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit has ruled that Americans have a “fundamental right” to so-called assault weapons, a major victory for gun rights.

A three judge panel ruled that Maryland’s Firearm Safety Act of 2013, ban against what the court called “the vast majority of semi-automatic rifles commonly kept by several million American citizens”, is a blunt violation of the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

“This case was a major victory for the NRA and gun rights advocates.”

Adam Winkler, UCLA law professor

“In our view, Maryland law implicates the core protection of the Second Amendment — the right of law-abiding responsible citizens to use arms in defense of hearth and home,” Chief Judge William Traxler wrote in the divided ruling.
