Gun control debate (merged)

Someone is getting fired. Refreashing comments from the Police Chief but I just don't see them going over well in DC.

According to CBS News, Lanier said, “If you’re in a position to try and take the gunman down, to take the gunman out, it’s the best option for saving lives before police can get there.” She admitted that such advice runs “counterintuitive” to what police have been saying for decades, but she stressed that the situation has changed.

As Paul Harvey would say. "And now, the rest of the story..."

DC police chief who advocated taking down mass shooters has approved few gun permits | Fox News

Despite her call on Sunday night for civilians to “take the gunman down” in a mass shooting scenario, Washington DC’s chief of police has approved just 48 concealed carry licenses in the past year and nearly 80 percent of all applicants have been rejected.

Of 233 applications sent for review since the Metropolitan Police Department began accepting permits on Oct. 23, 2014, 185 licenses had been denied as of Nov. 14, a department spokesperson told FoxNews.com on Monday.

Lanier did not respond to requests for comment, but a department spokesperson told FoxNews.com she has the final approval on all applications received. By her own account, a prospective victim's best chance in a mass shooting might be to have a gun.

White House: Reinstating 'Assault' Weapons Ban to Prevent Terrorism is Common Sense - Katie Pavlich

"I think what the President would say based on his comments from Sunday night is that we are seeing extremist organizations, including ISIL, trying to radicalize people in the United States to essentially mimic the tactics of other mass shooters in this country. So, there certainly is a national security benefit to closing the gun show loophole or reinstating the assault weapons ban," Earnest said (bolding is mine). "There is such profound frustration on the part of the President that Congress hasn't taken common sense steps that would make it harder for those who shouldn't get guns from getting their hands on them. The suggestion is not that we can stop every incident of violence in this country but if there are some common sense things that we can do that will at least make some of them less likely, then why wouldn't we do it."

They sure are trying hard with the "common sense" rhetoric.

Common sense says that people willing to go to prison or die after shooting someone isn't going to follow your pathetic gun regulations. Prohibition failed. The war on drugs has failed. Fed govt creating a super black market for firearms? We all know how that would end.

It's always funny when these talking heads talk about common sense. Let's have some common sense then. Understand that the police cannot save you, the only guarantee of safety you have is the level of preparations you've made for yourself. This is a great video. Check it out if you find the time.

I'm going to buy a pistol today. Any suggestions on a good concealed carry?

Go check them out. See what feels best in your hand. If you have a gun store that has a range/rental option, go that route. You can shoot them and see what you like.
The most common suggestions will be glock 19 or a smith and Wesson M&P 9mm.
