I don't consider anything available to civilians as an "assault" weapon. It's simply made up terminology to fit a particular political agenda. They're all just hunting or sporting rifles due to the same essential mechanical parts.
It's the scary looking accessories that folks don't understand and that they have been convinced, with propaganda, make the rifle military issue.
I don't personally own an AR styled hunting rifle as it hasn't fit my wants. I am however seeing some in 9mm that I'll be taking a closer look at in the near future.
The ex owns AR, SKS and AK rifles and we'd go shooting often, during the early to mid years, so I am familiar and comfortable with all of them.
