It's not so much that the guy left. It's the way that he did it that bothers me. His intent was to screw over TN because they didn't give in to his demands. I don't buy into the "he's just a kid" argument. I was off to basic training a week after graduation and I was only 17. I was prepared to die for my country at his age not a multi millionaire. No sympathy at all.

Nico didn’t lead us to playoffs. The defense did. He screwed himself. HE signed to play for Tennessee, not dad.

I wouldn't say this is about celebrating Nico's failure. It's more about UT dodging a bullet and the facts about Nico are revealing themselves, just not in Knoxville. I have no hard feelings towards Nico. We all know the circumstances of how he got where he is. Johnny Majors used to say "You are never as good as your best and never as bad as your worst". Face it, UCLA sucks as a team, and there are 10 others on the team. It's like those who said "Peyton couldn't beat Florida". I watched those games. Where was Peyton when Spurriers team was rolling up the points? He was on the sidelines watching our defense just like I was. Nico looking as bad as he does has a lot to do with his "supporting cast". Ironically, Nico's Dad understands this better than anyone - He was bitching to Heupel about getting better receivers for his son to shine brighter. He's probably beating the same drum out there on the sunset strip.

Yes sir I totally agree with your opinion. I also joined the military at 18 years old and my mother was totally against it because she had seen friends and family die in Vietnam, so she was convinced that I would wind up getting killed in combat. So ultimately when you become a man you have to make your own decisions. So either Nico still isn’t a man or he knew exactly what he was doing and used his family as a convenient scapegoat! I think it was the latter. Yes I believe he wanted to play Tennessee all along as fools . I have known lots of people from Southern California and most of them still think that East Tennessee is full of stupid hillbillies and rednecks. That’s what I think Nico really thought of us and Tennessee

I figured that some here would criticize my post and I applaud those of you that are such forgiving people. You would probably be the kind of people that would be against the death penalty for someone who brutally murdered a family member of yours ? I on the other hand grew up in the Pentecostal church in eastern Tennessee where people believe in an eye for an eye!

So, from what I have been told, you can’t just say, “Nico is an adult”, “he could have stood up and made his own decision”, etc. The culture that they live in puts exponentially higher power/control in the father’s hands. If you grew up that way, it might not be something you can just “make your own decisions”.

That being said, I put this 100% on his dad and really have started feeling sad for the demise of Nico. I didn’t want him to set the world on fire over there, but I certainly did t want him to destroy his football future over it.

I lived in LA for 18 years.
And I can assure one and all that UCLA has excellent doctors and surgeons who can successfully remove the karma boomerang from his Dad's ass and get him back up on his feet in no time.

I do not buy the story that Nico led us to the playoffs.

The defense and run game led us to the playoffs. IMHO, we made the playoffs IN SPITE of Nico NOT because of Nico.

Do kids have to re-sign scholarship papers yearly and do their parents have to sign off on them? Since they’re year to year it’s possible they do have to “re-sign” but at 20-21 do your parents have to sign off too? Point is, Nico could’ve told his dad to back down and that he wasn’t leaving and he didn’t. Nico didn’t have to travel to the UCLA-UO game last year on a bye week and subsequently those were 2 if not the only 2 he and or his camp reached out to. Big Nick has had a huge hand in ruining his kids career and reputation due to his own greed and blindness but Nico isn’t innocent either.

Uhhhhhh.....Nico Imaleavin did NOT lead the Vols to the playoffs. He was very average at QB and I'll never understand how he had a 5* rating.

He certainly isn’t innocent. But it woulda been difficult for me to have that confrontation at that age…along with the risk of alienating my dad for a long time and maybe for life.

But, fortunately, I was blessed with a great dad.
