He did throw a TD pass, but not one that really matters.

Yes. Wasn’t it against UMass? Vaguely remember the interesting hand shake between him and Canales, looked like they had been practicing that more than the actual throw game

JG is very talented. JG is both suffering and benefitting from hyper conservative game plans designed to prevent him from losing games... which also prevents him from winning games. The limit of any and all Vol QB's is more a function of Butch Jones and his system than their talent. Playing in a "good" SEC system... JG would have twice the yardage at least, several TD's, and an INT or two. UT would have scored more points and would have won the USCe and UK games.

I agree with this to an extent. However, if was actually the #1 dual threat recruit many claim he was, he would be more elusive and able to evade some of the pressure he has experienced.

Keep in mind Dormady also suffered from Jones' system and the OC play calls while trying to deal with a shoulder injury to his throwing arm. People need to apply same standards to all three QB's that have played this year and understand it's not who is playing QB, it's the system and play calls that are hampering the QB's success.

The stats were against an awful defense in UK and a Conference USA team that lost to UK....

Only like 3-4 games on our schedule are ever against elite/good teams, and if you’re looking for QBs to have amazing games against Bama with Butch’s system, you’re going to be disappointed.

All you do is downplay anything that JG has done. He is runnign the same version of the offense that Dormady ran the last 2 years, but he is doing it at a better level than Dormady did his Freshman and Sophomore years.

Butch Jones offense looked fine last year with DObbs runnign it,Are Dormady and JG just that much worse than Dobbs (Not taking anything away from Dobbs, I really enjoyed watchig him play).

Dormady looked lost and JG is just struggling Because he is a redshirt Freshman. Butch has some fault because of lack of player development but the offense isn't the problem, because Dobbs proved it could be ran successfully.

Dormady didn't have what it takes to play at an SEC level, and you can't even give JG any credit for anything he does well.

You have major issues! The offense may have been hyperconservative when JG first played but we are well beyond that now. JG is runnign the same offense that Dormady was running, it just looks different because JG doesn't have the same peopel playing with him as Dormady did!

27 for 36 (75%) for 344 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT. QBR 155.27

I see him as doing nothing but getting better as time goes on.

But wait...........but wait.............but wait.

McBride was 1-8 for 13 yards and had our offense rolling to the tune of 29 plays for 65 yards on 9 second half possessions (that’s 3.2 plays 7.2 yards per possession).

We got ourselves a real qb controversy since anybody, anybody I tell ya, could tell that McBride has a much stronger arm and is a much better athlete. Oh whatever will we do at the QB position the rest of the year?

Did you finally pull your head out of there long enough to get a breath of air?

I have never been against JG. I have said NUMEROUS times that he's a talented guy who simply wasn't ready to play.

I am against the MORONS who a) judge the two guys with bias and b) trash Dormady for really no reason other than protecting their ego which they attached to JG.

I have stated DOZENS of times that I think both guys have talent and that both suffer from playing for Jones in his ridiculous "system" with a supporting cast that Jones FAILED to recruit and develop well.

The QB's get too much blame. The problems with this O aren't... and have not been... the QB position. They start with Jones... he is about 90% of what's wrong.

You have said many times that JG is a talented dude only to turn around and say that he is only succeeding because of a hyperconservative Offense.

You can't make a compliment and follow it with a excuse as to why!

You have3 been pro-Dormady from the beginning and your colors have shown through. Dormady is a below average QB who has peaked, JG is a good young QBG with a high ceiling. Get over yourself!

We have a starting qb that has never thrown a td pass, correct?

No. Threw one earlier this year to Jeff George vs Indy State.

JG hasn’t shown to be a world beater right out of the gates, certainly has things to work and get much better at, primarily his decision-making, his presence in the pocket, etc.

However, the kid has a strong, accurate arm, is tough as nails, has shown good leadership imo and has shown good, steady improvement with more playing time.....he looked sharp vs So Miss before the injury and I thought he had a very good all around game vs Ky.

He ain’t Dobbs running and he ain’t Peyton from the pocket, but I think this kid can be a very good SEC QB if he continues to progress like he has the last 2-3 weeks....and I did not have that opinion a few weeks ago.

Both qbs have been mostly awful. I believe both will continue to be unless a change is made in leadership. I don't think Jones is capable of making a qb better. I really think both would be far more successful elsewhere. Just like every other qb that has left The Ole Ball Clown.

He looks lost in the pocket, he doesn't throw the ball away to avoid sacks, he hasn't proven to be that elusive in his scrambling, he's not that accurate, he hasn't really run away from anyone on long runs, he has only connected on one pass much longer than a screen pass and he has struggled to get his team into the end zone. But, he takes a beating and keeps getting back up. So, there is that.

JG has definitely shown improvement. I still think it was more due to experience and adjusting to college speed than anything Jones or his staff have done. I could be wrong.

He's improving--that is obvious. And it is also obvious that our offensive coaching/scheme/play-calling is bad. I mean, we went multiple games with barely a pass completion to a tight end or wideout. There is no excuse for not completing passes to tight ends, IMO. That's the /least/ you can do with a pass game--that and throwing it to the backs, which is the only thing we have done consistently.

JG has a long way to go to catch up to other top young QBs in the league but it is nice to know hes done this with the worst offensive coordinator to ever wear headsets, Larry Scott.

Imagine a team with Sal Senseri as DC and Larry Scott as OC?

Your Context is dilluted with bias!

No it isn't. You have even used the same reasons I gave for QD's problems to explain some for JG.

My "bias" is believing objectively that both guys have talent and both are held back by Jones' system and the team he put around them.

Your bias is that you argued that JG should be the starter then when he wasn't you had to trash Dormady to avoid admitting that you were wrong... and you still have to do it since the results haven't been there for JG. Yours isn't even so much support for JG as your pride.

Normally I would agree. But, when you realize that UMass had the dang ball and a 1st down on our side of the field, one score away from redeeming their winless record and hard fought loss to Coastal Carolina ... then you see that it really did matter.

Lord, did what I just write really happen? :eek:hmy:

That's EXACTLY what just came to my mind. Scarred and damaged minds think alike!

JG seems to have some upside. If Brandon Johnson could catch a perfectly thrown pass for the game winning TD, then some things are probably perceived differently for JG, and our season.

I like the way he looks and plays. Hopefully our "lame duck" staff gives him the green light this Saturday. It's not like we have a lot to lose by not being conservative. Then again, I'm sure Butch has the offensive staff huddled up plotting a way to "just get the game into the 4th Quarter". :-\

Disagree, and agree.

JG has shown marked improvement the last few weeks. He looked completely lost early in the season, even during mop up duty vs bad teams. But against both Kentucky and So Miss, he was getting the ball out quicker, was more decisive and was accurate. His passing numbers have been very good the last 2 games....still room for a lot of improvement, but you can see the kid progressing.

I agree that Jones struggles with qb development (actually all player development) and that any of our qbs would do much better with a head coach who has a strong track record of qb and player development.
