Gruden says he never considered coaching at Tennessee

Sad thing is some of these people turn this into "aTlAnTa VoL tRoLlEd Us aNd GuArAntEed GruDeN !!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!! Im MaD!!!!!!". **** is ridiculous and AV never said anything of the sort.

I read all those posts Southpaw linked and followed them back. One was actually talking about Blackburn and Atlanta was right. Lol. But the others were either about Atlanta confirming what Beaver said about the golf course, OR Atlanta Vol being very clear he was giving his opinion on information he was getting.

But I already knew all of that. Its a damn shame some people can't have any fun on the internet from fear of what others might think of them.

" Haha, that Dumbass OrangePeckeredVol really hoped the rumors about getting a Superbowl winning coach for the Vols were true".

The bartender at the Honors Course was a known legend. It really wasn't solid intel. It would be like someone claiming to have intel on Volnation.com by saying Behr is a hall-monitor. Errrybody knows that's true! Hi Behr! How's traffic in greater Ft. Myers?

I never heard of The Honors or Ivan, so I'm not sure he was/is a legend. Only a few people in that thread had even heard of The Honors and they lived in Chattanooga. Lol.

Nobody said it was solid "Intel", keep up. SP was trying to prove Atlanta said Gruden was being hired and provided links to prove so. His links provided proof that Atlanta Vol confirmed Ivan was a bartender at The Honors.

Funny you're still bothered by my hall monitoring. I do it more often now that I know.

Being bothered by your hall monitoring would be like being bothered that water is wet. LULZ!

Interestingly, just about every person I know with connections at or near the top of the UT football food chain and an above-average IQ will tell you that there was very serious interest by both parties. There was apparently a sticky issue or two that kept it from happening. The last quote in that article tells you what you need to know: "the timing wasn't right."

During Gruden version 1, I was told that it was big money working the deal, that Jon wanted beyond Saban like control of things, more NFL-ish type control, that the AD wasn’t going to agree to that and the AD didn’t appreciate being left outside the deal negotiations and so he never even called Gruden.

Jon will likely be fired by the raiders in a couple of years--he'll be back on the market for a big dollar coaching job.

He is what he is , a 500% winning coach.
He won a 100% of the time when he was a celebrity on ESPN and probably could have recruited well off of his show in college from the get go..
In this drive thru world that time has passed or "boat has sailed".
He is looked at now as a middling NFL coach and will never get or garner the money from college that would entice him to leave IMO.

That's ridiculous. None of the experts would agree with you. He's done one of the best coaching jobs in the NFL this year. The guy can coach better than anyone we've ever had up here on the Hill

I think the fascination with Gruden is understandable to a point. At the times fans were calling for him, he was a super bowl winning coach. He chose a wife from here, had ties here, and seemed a good choice. Worth pursuing. To most people had he accepted, more than Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley or Butch Jones.

But the grind of recruiting, and having to comply with NCAA rules would have been hard for him. He didn't want that type of job.

And though he has had a history of saying no, some will probably still want him at the next coaching change. Just in case he changes his mind. Could he? Highly doubtful, but knowing our luck, the moment we stop asking, then he will decide college football is for him. And Vanderbilt will get him and turn them around. Or Kentucky will. Or South Carolina will.

Doubt it will happen once the Raiders lose faith in him. But oh well. At least we get to laugh at the continuing mention of him.

Dumb. He didn't troll.

I agree. However both Gruden ant UT used the rumor to further their agenda. Gruden could have quelled the rumor but chose not to in order to generate publicity for himself. This could have helped his NFL coaching aspirations. UT used it as a straight up smokescreen in an attempt to hire Shitano behind the scenes and cram him down our throat.

That was in regards to Atlanta Vol not Gruden.

One of the gifts I'm hoping for one Christmas soon is to find out that Gruden has agreed to come back and be a position coach for Jeremy.

Go Vols!

Let's get a thread going!

Go Preacher, Go Sara, Go other cool people whose names I can't remember, let's do this thing!

The Gruden threads were the most fun I've had in VN.com. Ever. Seriously. Ever.

Go Vols! Go Gruden!

One of the gifts I'm hoping for this Christmas is never having to see Jon Gruden mentioned in connection with the University of Tennessee ever again.

Sorry, Charlie Brown. When you unwrap that one, you will have gotten another rock.
