Well, last week I posted about how their lack of mental fortitude cost them a chance @ being in that thing. I stand here proud that they corrected the issue this week. Did they look amazing? No. Did they kill UF? No. But did they fold when they couldve? NO. I don't need to go on a long rant to show why that's so important. Many of you (coaches and former players of any sport) understand that already. Our boys stayed with the task @ hand, for the most part, and they gave themselves a chance to try and win the thing. We simply couldn't execute to a level that would get a W. Guess what? We knew that in the summer. Its nothing new. We know where we are with depth and experience. They've shown that they CAN weather the storm of a game, and @ the very least: continue giving max effort. The next step of the process is learning to win.
I was very impressed with the way they addressed the effort issue so quickly. I believe they saw 2 things : 1) it gives you a CHANCE to win
2) Finishing the way we did w/ UF is FAR more admirable than the manor in which we finished the UO game.

I believe they are moving in the right direction and DD/Staff's ability to get results in a area like effort,in such short time is a positive. Here's to hoping they can learn step #2 just as quickly.

The start of the 4th was eerily similar to the UO game at the same point. You saw 2 mindsets from our boys. Next week(LSU,not UAB), we may put it together for 4 quarters! Just pray for no OT.

Very leveled assessment. Nice job. Both points are true.

Let me add another thought. Reveiz's mohawk showed player leadership influence. When solid, coachable players influence their teammates, coaching has a better path to winning.

All in all, there was much improvement, it's just frustrating that the biggest issues are so glaring that they will make beating anyone a chore.

Thanks, and good point. Its always a good thing when you've got unit's acting as one, and not 10 individuals. Always a positive. They were 3-4 plays away from keeping it square, and 6-10 plays away from potentially winning it. Last week, they went from 3-4 plays to 15-25 plays, all bc of their mentality. Now let's work on those 3-4 plays! =)

Well, those issues are tangible issues. That come with the territory that 3 coaches in 22 mos puts you in. Giving up and quitting, is a ind choice. I'd much rather have to replace a couple DT's and OL than have to teach 85 guys not to quit. Its nothing short of a "THANK GOD" moment for me that they didn't duplicate last weeks fold.

You sound like you've coached some ball.

As soon as Simms throws a pick, this team does not want to play. And what's strange is the only person on offense who seems to rebound from it is Simms. As soon as he chucks and INT, Florida gashes us for yards, until AJ steps up and causes a fumble.

Do moral victories count this year or not?

Ever taught/watched a kid learn to walk? They don't run the 1st time grasshopper. If you kept up with UT FB for the last 3 yrs, and you expected us to beat UO and UF, you've got issues this board isn't qualified to address.

This will be an issue all year because we are going to have a hard time winning ballgames. Secondly, after this month, we hit the road and that is going to be a challenge in and of itself.

It was joke in reference to last years ongoing moral victory argument. Relax.

DD doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that likes to have the same convo twice with the same people. They responded well. I expect that going forward. Will we win them all? No, but we damned sure better compete or they shouldn't be allowed to wear orange. (No offense players, as I'm with you guys. And damned proud of your effort this week)

I know our record is 1-2 but I see a lot of potential in these kids. With a "rookie" QB and a fresh offensive line this team is showing a lot of potential. Game speed is very different than practice. A few more games and this team may actually start clicking. It's gonna be a fun second half!

We usually start clicking when we play UGA, hopefully this will be the case this year as well...

I saw several things to be positive about:

1) For the most part, our O-Line gave Simms time to throw. They weren't perfect, but much better than we should expect from 5 non-starters from last year. Remember, this O-Line is made up of freshmen, transfers, and upper classmen that could not beat out walk-ons last year.

2) Simms pocket presence seems to have improved over the last 3 weeks. Several times during the game, he stepped up into the pocket while getting pressure. Sure, he made some errant throws and perhaps held the ball too long a couple of times. But he seemed fairly relaxed in there. The game is slowing down for him...

3) How many times have we seen a Florida receiver all alone behind the defense over the years? Enough to make me sick thinking about it. That didn't happen yesterday that I remember. There were some mis-matches that we got caught in (Malik Jackson covering Demps, etc...) but in general our pass coverage seemed pretty good.

4) The team didn't quit. The defense was getting pushed around quite a bit. But, they were still hitting hard and making plays even late in the game.

Obviously, we got beat. And to be honest we're lucky the score wasn't more lopsided than it was. But I still see some signs of hope for the future. My prediction - we WILL beat some teams this year that we're not supposed to beat.

We've got to get pressure up front on passing downs, or our secondary will get picked apart by Garcia, Murray, Masoli, and maybe more.

Blitzs by the lbs is the only answer. Were too thin on DT to create a 4 man rush
