Greenland

Oh yes they do. Well Denmark has sovereignty over Greenland and they will retain it. In fact it was even stated in your first reply to me that they will retain that sovereignty in any deal. Again was your president lying?
Point is Greenland isn’t a stand alone sovereign nation. So either way, Denmark or US they would still gain sovereignty through the nation that claims them.

Your point is in conflict with the framework outlined in your first post though. Here let me help you out. You can go through whatever mental gymnastics you’d like I guess but it’s clear from the info in your own post Greenland doesn’t want to be absorbed by US sovereignty
the new "framework of a future deal" announced by President Trump involves the U.S. getting involved in Greenland's mineral rights, potentially granting the U.S. a right of first refusal on strategic minerals like rare earths, alongside military cooperation and a proposed "Golden Dome" missile defense system, in exchange for dropping tariff threats against European allies, though specific details are still emerging and Greenlandic officials stress their sovereignty

semantics. Greenland is an autonomous territory under the kingdom of Denmark. Similarly to the US Virgin Islands and the USA.

So your semantics agree that Greenland is sovereign Denmark territory just like the US Virgin Islands are US territory. Good, progress. Sovereignty which your president said he wouldn’t violate. Which brings us full circle to this is just another resource grab.

To the people of Greenland: Who would you rather run your country, Russia, China, or the USA? In my opinion there's no question. It's the country that gives me the most freedom.

Definitely the country that basically threatened to take you if they couldn't buy you. Definitely.

It’s actually my point. I tend to forget I’m talking to bad faith morons

It's is dawning on more and more folks that the emperor has no clothes.
There may be some of that going on, but isn’t this right out of the Trump negotiation playbook? Set up an extreme outcome as a bargaining chip so that he can negotiate back from it as if he’s giving something up.

If the Trump Negotiation Playbook is this...

...then yes.

Oh good Lord you’re going to play this as 4d chess crap?! 🤦‍♂️
It’s not even 2D chess. Haven’t we seen enough to know the bravado just is what it is? Did anybody really believe we were going to storm the beaches of Greenland and plant the flag? The personal crap and stupid comments about Nobel Prizes drive me crazy too, but the guy does know how to leverage military strength and economic power.

It was also pretty revealing how quickly the Secretary General basically said “Hey wait a minute. This makes sense.”

It wasn’t revealing at all. The Secretary General of NATO agreeing that NATO should have a more increased presence in the arctic is pretty much in line with current western world views. And I’d like to see the president of the United States not act like a mob boss in trying to achieve those goals. Yes yes … we know … don’t listen to what he says see what he does. What he actually says matters too. He’s the damn most powerful person in the world currently.

You’ll get no argument from me that he’s reckless and needs to find a mute button so that he doesn’t create as many problems as he solves. But the TACO stuff is just dumb.

Give europe 5 years to build up and organize their militaries, and they'll be fine. Russia cant even win in ukraine at the moment, so they wont be challenging for anything until they can get that figured out (with elon's robot legions).
They have to choose between military self-sufficiency and welfare states.

The TACO stuff feathers in exactly with the approach you’re saying he takes though. If you don’t accept all of this as some mastermind “art of the deal” then it just looks like he continually gets out over his skis and has to always walk it back. Not a good impression for most powerful person in the world to make. 🤷‍♂️

Oh your edit no I didn’t think we were actually going to invade because it was my hope that the rest of DC would have intervened had he hinted that was the course of action he was seriously considering. And his actions in Venezuela didn’t concern me as bullying a banana republic who had zero chance of defending themselves didn’t equate to seriously considering an article V provoking action against the most powerful military alliance in the world. Both actions do share one thing in common to me though they appear to both just be resource grabs since there is nothing in the 1951 treaty (I linked the full treaty text earlier) prohibiting where we are at today with the information provided thus far.

I just think he’s playing the long game a lot more often than he’s being a bragging goof… even though he’s sometimes being an undisciplined goof.

Europe will collapse, no army needs to go in there to make it happen. Europe will go back to what it does best, killing other Europeans.

It was nice living there, good luck to them.

Ok agree to disagree. I think he was a bit more disciplined in his first term. This time he seems to be continually going off the rails in highly unproductive fashion. Again it’s my stance that nothing in the provided data on this deal related to defense is prohibited by the existing treaty. Thus to me it’s just another resource grab. Which he used the threat of military action to elicit.

Hey, I didn't like some aspects of this and have started being openly critical of some of the stuff he does, but could the problem be that Trump shows how the sausage is made openly? We ALL, I mean everyone, complains about shady dealings and backroom bargains made with members of Congress getting rich and we have zero insight into it.

And here comes Trump, brash Queens businessman, openly doing business and a significant portion of the public hates him for it. Would we rather all this have taken place behind the scenes? Some book comes out later about how it went down?

Would we rather have polite crooks or open to the public assholes? Just asking. Is some self-reflection in order?
