this is the first year that ive really seriously followed recruiting, so forgive me if this is a no-brainer but can anyone think of a year where the top recruiting class in the nation was head and shoulders above everyone else? im not talking about just a few stars ahead im talking total domination of the board and nobody else was even close and it could be considered the strongest class ever. follow up question, can you tell me how well that class did in their four years and what the team accomplished with all of that talent. just curious

Majors first class had 12 Parade All Americans. We did not have a star system back then. That was the class of 1977. Lee North, James Daniels, James Berry, Clark Duncan, just to name a few. I think Lee Otis Burton was also in that class as the top defensive player in the country and he never played a down.

I would have to say SMU with Dickerson and James, but they were cheating.:)

They accomplished alot...

lee otis played. I have him on DVD making a tackle at 1978 Notre Dame game. One of the greatest defensive plays I've ever seen.

He ran down Vegas Ferguson from behind after a long run to make tackle

Idk either Auburn or Florida last year. If Florida had good coaches those guys could've been dangerous. Auburn had alot of freshmen play really good and Cam

I'm sure Notre Dame holds about 9 spots in Tom Lemming's Top 10 classes of all time.

Sorry, I did not remember that. Thanks for the correction, Larry. That must have been the first game in South Bend.

So basically nobody at this time can answer definitively ...... I like the J Majors post with the 12 Parade AAs, but I'm sure if you look at some of FSU or Miami's recruiting in the 80-95 yrs you'll find some stud classes.
Also OSU and Texas have had some serious classes..
USC........blah
ND..........blah but got a TV contract

auburn? best recruiting class ever, by recruiting services??? nowhere close. maybe u didnt understand the question though. the florida class was ridiculous. made me sick in the all star game with the majority of the studs doing the stupid gator chomp during the whole thing. that fl class was probably hands down the highest rated defensive line class in history.

Im going by production. The Florida 06 class hands down is the best ever. Well at least in the Rivals, Scout, ESPN era.
