1st and 10....handoff off tackle routinely ended up resulting in 2nd and 10 or more.

2nd down was normally some type of swing pass to rb

3rd and long was throw it up for grabs and hope our wr’s make the 50/50 play. Today they did!

All im saying is this type of play calling is not going to lead to continued success. There is no doubt that we ran some well thought out plays that exposed their defense but overall, we have got to mix it up more than we did in this game. Great win, GO VOLS!! Hope we continue to improve...and that includes the coaching.

He called a much better game. But I would still like to see more passing if the run game is struggling that badly. I think we should be 65-35 passing honestly. Unless the running game starts clicking honestly.

Are you delusional man!? Were you not watching the same game as everyone else? Running the ball keeps the Defense honest. There are gonna be some games that the defense is gonna shut it down but you can't steer away from the run game. Just the threat alone opens up the Play action pass. If you know anything about football those throws weren't a heave and a pray, they were legit throws. Also, forgot to mention those tunnel screens to JJ that was effective. The big difference in this game was JG had time, it appears he was able to read the D better and he targeted multiple receivers all game!

Geez dude give it a rest. Helton actually called a hell of a game IMO. He took many shots down the field which were setup by trying to pound the ball for 1 yard gains. We lulled them to sleep and got 1-1 matchups on the perimeter.

He does have a point. Its not that we stuck with the run its that it was so predictable as to the order of the playcalling, and several times it destroyed momentum after a big defensive play. That being said he clearly is hampered by OL issues and has made huge steps in JGs development. I personally have had to eat a huge plate of crow after watching the QB play yesterday.

They've spent half the season setting up a play action pass on first down. It's time to see it.

I will be sure to give it a rest when we become less predictable. All im saying is there is plenty of room for improvement. Yall acting like im screaming for him to be fired or something. Make no mistake about it, im a happy camper we finally got a win, i just want more of em.

So now anything not a screen is a 50/50 ball? I swear some of you just want to bitch just to hear your own voice.

If you go this way, you increase the chances of turnovers and qb injuries and will increase the number of plays and time the opponent has on offense. I like most got really tired of watching "up the middle, then flat pass being or at the los, then long down the field 50/50 ball (most of the time)", but it seem to work to our advantage.

I felt the same way during the game but in hindsight I’m wondering if that was the plan all along - keep the clock moving on first and second down to limit the total number of plays for Auburn’s offense and rely on deep passes to move the ball
Yup, I rewatched the game and that was his exact strategy. The run wasn't there much but it kept Auburn in the box just enough for us to have success attacking the perimeter. We were getting one on one and JG and the WRs made Auburn for their aggression. It was a sight to behold.

well, nobody's perfect...believe he called a descent game...finally let JG loose to go downfield to our weapons often and he called from the sideline instead of the box, and I always believe that actually helps being on the field with the players...anyway, a very nice win...and,

GO BIG ORANGE!

?
There is a reason we are running every first down.

It's the same reason we aren't snapping the ball until under 5 seconds on the playclock on second down.
Wait what, you mean there is a little strategy involved in calling a football game? Why would we want to shorten the game and give our defense a rest, especially against teams that are explosive and fast-paced?

Is it ok if i think Pruitt wears the ugliest clothes he can find on the Jeremy Pruitt show? Damn that tie! Lol

Ive been most critical of the oc/hc due to offensive gameplaning. However, that wasnt the case yesterday. There could be many factors influencing it now, including player not having all the plays etc. All you can ask is that the coaches put together a game plan that is effective and gives the team a chance to win. They did that yesterday and it worked against a solid defense.

We have to run some. Don't know what balance if plays were but running is important. Even if you don't gain that much. We gashed them on over the top plays looks like they were set on stopping the run, where they got beat last week. Jmo

The very fact that we continued to run it after hitting a couple of deep balls ended up being brilliant. They kept the safety in the box and they had to stay honest because Chandler hit them with a big run out of the gate. Helton made Steele pay for his aggressive style all game long.

HERE!! HERE!! I like you am strangling on black slick feathers. JG showed me something I didn't think he had other than toughness. Just shows you what a little ol play and a good game plan and management can do.

All I know is we had a bye week and week looked like a well-prepared team as any team coming off a bye should. I remember us looking horrible after most bye weeks under that last staff! Yes we our WR's made plays, but at least we got the plays off!
