Gotta Give Credit Where Due

Heartbreaking loss yesterday. I feel great about our season. But, 3-0 woulda been far better than 2-1. We just couldn't close it out the last 5 minutes and resulting OT. Proud of our Vols for leaving it all out there. I believe every goal we have for the season is still in front of us. Let's get healthy and use this for motivation going forward!

That being said and I'm not sure anyone wants to hear it. But ... Kirby Smart had 0 fake injuries yesterday. We ran our pace offense for longer dominant drives on 2 or 3 occasions. Not once did a UGA player fake an injury to stop a drive. I've never been a CKS fan. Especially the way he acts like a sugar laden child on the sidelines often.

But, these discussions have gone on @ how to fix this problem ad nauseam. As bad as it pains me to say it, I have to give credit to Smart for not succumbing to the temptation in a huge game against the poster child offense for fake injury. Kudos for setting the example if we're actually gonna fix this problem.

Now, I hope you lose every game in the future of CFB (well exc ND, OSu, or UM) . But, I certainly gained some respect yesterday.

Same here. Agree on Kirby w/ the fake penalties...didn't think about that until you mentioned it. Was such a cleaner game w/o the stoppage nonsense. He's been thru the fire and knows how to manage games...you keep playing and stay in it until the end. On most every situation where the game was on the line, they made a play. We did too, but just ran out of clock. UGA looks legit if they play like they did the rest of the way. On the other hand, for our Vols, I'm getting a bit of the Hendon Hooker offense vibe and think we're going to be tough to stop. On paper, we should have a better D than when he played. Really need to get our DBs back...our frosh DBs did great against lesser competition, but inexperience showed against UGA talent.

I wish I could say the same thing about us. Agree it was refreshing to play an opponent that didn't game the system like that.

Why does everyone seem to dislike Kirby? Is it because he’s the coach of a rival team? I think he’s a good coach. Granted, he’s at a school in a talent rich state but still, he wins. He doesn’t use gimmicks nor things like the OP said in using fake injuries. My take on him came after the FSU thrashing when he stated college football has to figure out what it wants. Then, he gave credit to FSU not having their full allotment of players instead of stating how great he and Georgia are.

I agree I have a hard time hating the guy. Always gives respect to the other team win or lose in hard fought games. No bs fake injuries and coaches a heck of a game.

They don’t like him because they don’t like Georgia fans. Same reason they didn’t like Saban.
Now that Saban has retired, mainly see posts complementing things he says.
Kirby will get the same treatment in time.
I suspect a lot of those same people who say they “hate” Kirby would hire him in a second…

I don't want to like Kirby cuz he coaches the Dogs, but I respect him as the best coach in college football now that Saban is gone. Compare Kirby's character with somebody like Lane Kiffen and you see what I mean.

We don't like him because he is our main nemesis at the moment, and I see you throwing subtle darts again.

No fake injuries was nice. They shouldn’t allow stopping or have some sort of balance agreement with commercials also. UGA has no commercials on their 8 minute drive to start the 3rd. Then commercial after commercial. It really changes the rhythm and can cool a drive.

On Kirby the “lot of whistling by the graveyard”, I thought he as gaslighting his team with “no one believes in us”, but I guess he believes it himself. When they were ranked 2nd highest SEC school to start and in the top 4 in the coaches poll, while UT had to start at the bottom half after making the playoffs the year before—below Florida and South Carolina—and work their way up. No one even mentioned UT for a potential SEC champ or playoff run in the media after Nico left with all they lost on offense. If anyone was whistling by the graveyard, it was about UT not UGA.
