Gorsuch refuses to mask up

This is dirty laundry that they are embarrassed about.
That doesn’t give her or Roberts a motive to draft statements disingenuously helping him out. Those statements are almost unprecedented. Nobody would have batted an eye if we hadn’t got one. The story was almost dead, this got it churned back up again. So just keeping their mouths shut makes Gorsuch look like a raging dickhole and kills the story faster.

The best benchmark for gauging the story as told by Totenberg was that 7 justices agreed to put on masks. That pendulum swung when the two justices central to the story bailed him out.

You either don’t have the right friends or working colleagues if you allow them to influence you like that without telling them what you think or if you alienate them for it . Your beliefs and the stand you take is far from trivial. Some bend the knee easier than others I guess . 🤷‍♂️

Oh I’m sure he’s spent plenty of time on blended knee.

Roberts is all about making sure the court doesn't appear political. This is a "family" squabble that got leaked. I'm guessing he made some comment about Sotomayor being concerned about omicron and that it'd make since for the justices to wear masks. That's a suggestion, not a request. All went along except Gorsuch. Then someone leaked this story (clerk, secretary) and then their press shop did their best to deny it while not explicitly lying.

They've all read the story. They know the language used. They've had two chances to deny the actual allegation in the reporting and they didn't.

Yes, they did. Trying to act like there is a wide gulf between "suggested" and "requested" is asinine.

Totenberg got burned by a source. It happens. And, as I pointed out earlier, it's not even the only instance of shoddy reporting in her piece.

Sits next to Sotomayor, who is diabetic and immunocompromised, but he refuses to wear a mask. What a jerk. But I'm sure all the "loves em some Jesus" folks on here approve.

They are all vaccinated and boosted. So what’s the problem? Shouldn’t being fully vaccinated protect everyone? And what does Jesus have to do with this?

These are smart, Harvard and Yale Law School educated attorneys. They know the specific words used by the story (that Roberts "suggested" everyone where masks). They're denying things that aren't alleged in the story.

If he "suggested" why would he come out and deny the whole thing? Justice Roberts rarely makes statements like that. You're really struggling with this one. Just take the L and save some semblance of a decent reputation around here. Your only prayer here is if Roberts denies saying that

You have been thoroughly embarrassed in this thread like you typically do. Take your L, put on your mask continue to hide in your house so you don’t get the rest of us sick.

You can read NPR journo Gura’s reply here but I found this reply particularly brutal and spot on. The replies as a whole seem to be brutal. @evillawyer will have several “journalists” with which to commiserate along with those highly educated “lawyers” and your fellow paralegals 😂🤡

Roberts, Sotomayor and Gorsuch Address Reports of Conflicts Over MasksIn an unusual joint statement on Wednesday, Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Neil M. Gorsuch sought to rebut reports that Justice Gorsuch’s refusal to wear a mask at Supreme Court arguments has created tensions between them.

“Reporting that Justice Sotomayor asked Justice Gorsuch to wear a mask surprised us,” the statement said. “It is false. While we may sometimes disagree about the law, we are warm colleagues and friends.”

And NPR stands by its report. Interesting.

Nina T's original reporting: "Now, though, the situation had changed with the omicron surge, and according to court sources, Sotomayor did not feel safe in close proximity to people who were unmasked. Chief Justice John Roberts, understanding that, in some form asked the other justices to mask up. "

You say a suggestion is not a request. Neither is it an "ask". For your theory above to be true, the NPR story is false.

What's interesting in this Tweet you offered is that Nina T's reporting is changed from "asked" to "suggested". Hmmm, wonder why the wording has to change in response to denials around the original word?
