Huff, as I said previously, there is no denying some things are better today, but there is nothing wrong with missing that sense of comfort and security that existed in past generations. There was more emphasis on community back then, and I miss that. Today's world is full of people who only worry about themselves. Yes, there are still some good people out there, but so many people have turned to a more materialistic world view.
One thing that I would like to ask is if you all think that music and tv shows reflect the times. If you think that they do, then what seems to be happier music......Doo Wop music and love ballads of the 50's, or some of the angry rap lyrics and head banging, frenetic music of today? Which TV shows seem like happier times.....The Donna Reed Show, Father Knows Best, Andy Griffith , Leave it to Beaver, or The Walking Dead, Fear of the Walking Dead, etc?
You would know more than me since you lived through that time period. I am sure that I just don't remember the outcry for blood and guts on tv, and angry music. I guess there was a clamoring for it, and just not enough channels and radio stations to put it on.They do, but only to a certain degree. In the 50s and 60s, I would say TV shows reflected what people would tolerate on TV moreso than what was actually going on in the world. Women were becoming liberated sexually, but you couldn't put that on a primetime sitcom. They just wouldn't allow it. If you check out literature, there was a lot more freedom to write about what you wanted and they were publishing books like Animal Farm, 1984, Lord of the Flies, Brave New World, etc.
The 1970s documentary series on Netflix talks about how it was the first time the TV generation actually had control of what was produced. Before then, it was people who didn't grow up on TV. That revolutionized things. They began the transformation of TV and movies into more of an art form.
Not to mention there were only a few channels. When we have 600 TV channels, they're gonna make something for everybody.

That's not the argument I made, but whatever.
BTW, you're about 20 years behind on rap music. Gangster rap isn't very popular anymore (and it was popular among people like me who had nothing to do with that lifestyle... it's just entertainment). Kendrick Lamar raps about struggles with alcohol. Kid Cudi raps about losing his Father to cancer, being a loner, drugs, etc. Kanye West raps about being a god, fashion, gold-diggers, car accidents, etc.
There is still loads of trap music/crack rap still being made. Leaving church last week I was allowed to sample some at a red light from the car beside me. Every other word was f or n. I saw something move in the back, guy had a kid in a car seat. Raisin em right I guess.
Is that any worse than my parents raising me on 60s and 70s rock music that glorified drug use?
I don't think music has the negative power people claim it has, tho the music you mention may indicate there are other things wrong with their parenting.
Damn, i've never wanted a time machine more than now. I'd love to send you guys back to 1955. Hope you don't need a root canal.
Lol, no need to be obtuse. You know that era was full of music glorifying drug use.
Just being honest, I'd miss my remote. Back then, I was the remote. "Son, change the channel." lol
