Perhaps, capping enrollment at the state’s flagship university campus would be unpopular and deleterious to those with political ambitions.

I saw the enrollment was over 40k this year up from 36 the previous year. My girlfriends daughter goes to school there and they were told during their orientation the incoming freshman class was the "smartest" they have ever had. I assume that's based on SAT/ACT scores and average high school GPA.

Actually, the real estate for the Cumberland Canyon was purchased by out-of-state developers that do that same kind of apartment building all over the country.

I do tend to believe that it was some kind of a joint project with UT. After all, Randy Boyd is the system president. He probably got some kind of a cut of the action.

Those of us who live in Kville and watched this stuff happen kind of shrug and say, "What can you do." I feel really sorry for the folks who haven't been here in years coming to campus. It looks almost completely different than it did 10-12 years ago, and I imagine it's quite the shock.

UT has another record enrollment this fall, and it looks like it's expected to continue to increase in the near future. Why they do not cap the enrollment is beyond me. The simplest explanation is that it's the money.

Between Randy Boyd and Indya Kincannon, Knoxville has become an overcrowded, bustling, modernizing version of the relatively quiet, genteel town we remember from the 70's. Knoxville is definitely not as friendly as it once was. So many people moving here..

Copper Cellar.... it's not gone but I went this past Sunday for brunch for my mom's birthday. First time I have been in a while. I don't live in Knoxville so I don't really have the opportunity to go too often but man... what in the world happened to that place. The food was meh at best and of course it was expensive. Anyone else have the same or similar experience lately?

I know they closed the location on Cumberland (which is the original right?)

I remember when the Copper Cellar on Cumberland opened. I loved that place, but couldn't afford to go there often. Did take cute li'l gal or two there. You could get a yard of beer!

Funny, that's what they told my freshman class 16 years ago. And the class after us, and the class after them, etc.
